Intermountain Health Financial Counselor in Denver, Colorado

Job Description:

Provides financial counseling to uninsured/underinsured patients by screening for potential Medicaid eligibility, assisting with the application process through determination, providing education regarding the Affordable Care Act and assisting with navigation through the marketplace, arranging payment plans, generating price quotes and providing Intermountain Health Financial Assistance Applications.

  • Educatespatientsabout the Affordable Care Act, including potential eligibility during both open enrollment and in the situation of a life qualifying events. Explains qualified health plans,essentialhealth benefits, differences in plan affordability, premium tax credits, and cost sharing. Assists individuals navigating through the web based State or Federal Marketplace.

  • Providespatientswith an Explanation of Benefits and answers questions related to coverage and billing. Completes Point of Service Collections of co-pays, deductibles, and deposits. Arranges payment plans and processes contract payments in Wells Fargo system and Epic.

  • Promotesmission,vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

  • Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required

  • Demonstratesdiscretion in verbal and written communication with patients and Intermountain Health staff ensuring patient confidentiality at all times

  • Ability to read, understand and apply personal tax return information and profit/loss statements.

  • Proficientcomputerskillsincluding experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellentcustomerserviceskills, both written and verbal. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients and their families, physicians, nursing personnel and co- workers. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Understanding of State and Federal Programs available

  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, SSDI, and SSI qualification

Patient Financial Specialist-Financial Clearance

  • Confirms, documents, and /or updates patients account in Epic for all interactions/ transactions

  • Completes Patient Estimate process in Epic, relaying information to the patient and documenting in patient(s) account

  • Collect amounts due from patient(s), set up payment plans within set guidelines, escalating exceptions when appropriate

  • Communicates outcome to appropriate site leadership and schedulers (when applicable)

Patient Financial Specialist Colorado – Cancer Care Centers

  • Identifies patients that may qualify for pharma/foundation co-pay assistance programsandassistpatients with applying for funding; tracking and monitoring eligibility ensuring qualified credit are applied to patient(s) accounts.

  • MaximizesPatient Insurance Benefits – Partner with clinical providers to best structure care, balancing clinical and financial needs.

  • Obtains insurance verification for all new patients and cost estimates for patients receiving treatment.

  • Answer patient billing questions/concerns and work with appropriate teams to resolve potential billing issues.

Minimum Requirements

Required : High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
