Amazon Senior Business Development Manager, Genomics & Life Sciences, US Higher Education & Academic Research in Denver, Colorado

Are you passionate about cloud computing and its potential to help academic researchers overcome some of the biggest challenges in the Life Sciences? The Amazon Web Services (AWS) U.S. Higher Education and Academic Research Vertical team is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to work with principal investigators and researchers in the biological sciences to deploy and adopt cloud-based services that support ongoing scientific discovery and innovation. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will help researchers understand best practices around cloud-based research workflows, and how to migrate existing workloads to the cloud. You will have the opportunity to help shape and execute a strategy to build mind-share and broad use of AWS within Universities and Colleges in the U.S.

The ideal candidate will have an established history of engagement in academic research in the life sciences, and a clear track-record of delivering results. The ability to connect technology with domain-specific research strategies is critical to a Business Development Manager in the Research Vertical; you should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about market forces shaping academic research in the U.S., and how AWS can support institutions and researchers in driving innovation to support current and future research.

Key job responsibilities

  • Serve as a highly credible expert on using cloud technologies to support research workflows in the life sciences (e.g., genomics, bioinformatics)

  • Develop repeatable solutions, offerings, frameworks, and models that help academic research customers adopt AWS native services and/or Partner offerings

  • Work directly with academic research institutions and AWS partners, leveraging your expertise in the life sciences to deepen AWS relationships with academic customers, and support the development of customer-centric solutions

  • Work with internal teams, partners, and external stakeholders to build novel solutions to advance the field

  • Identify gaps in solutions, and influence joint AWS and partner solution development

  • Drive go-to-market strategies, work with AWS service teams to influence product roadmap

  • Provide thought leadership through events, white papers, blogs, and social media to capture customer mind-share in the life sciences domain

  • Travel (30%) to customer sites, and ability to work autonomously

About the team

The U.S. Higher Education and Academic Research Vertical team is a team of industry-experienced subject matter experts who care deeply about impacting the missions of teaching, research, and community engagement through the implementation of AWS technologies and solutions. We think big, and dive deep with customers, working backwards from their unique industry challenges to build and implement solutions that improve the experiences of students, faculty, and other higher education stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree in the life sciences or an adjacent field

  • 5+ years leveraging cloud computing to support academic research workflows

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in the life sciences or an adjacent field

  • Experience leading cloud adoption within an academic setting

  • Experience developing, leading, negotiating and executing corporate and/or business transactions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
