National Jewish Health Student - Research - Petrache Lab in Denver, Colorado

We are seeking an enthusiastic Student to join the laboratory of Irina Petrache, MD, in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at National Jewish Health, in Denver, CO, for a temporary summer research position.

Our research focuses on mechanisms of lung injury and repair in the pathogenesis of lung diseases. Our goal is to identify therapeutic targets for diseases caused by exposure to cigarette smoke, vaping, and respiratory viral infections, such as COPD/emphysema, pulmonary hypertension, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Our research projects employ complementary approaches, including:

Molecular and cellular biology Biochemistry Pulmonary patho-physiological assessment of small animal models of disease Translational approaches using human cohorts. The methods used in our laboratory include tissue culture, exposure of cells to cigarette smoke and e-cigarettes, isolation of cells from murine and human tissues, transfections, RNA and protein isolation, quantitative PCR, Western blotting, histology, immunofluorescence, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and others.

Position Summary

To observe and learn techniques within a laboratory setting.

Essential Duties

Observe procedures and techniques unique to specific jobs and tasks. Assist Laboratory Researchers with routine lab procedures such as data collection, sterilization of equipment and preparation of routine laboratory solutions. Stock and inventory laboratory supplies. Pick up and deliver materials and supplies. Answers phones, screen calls, refers calls or messages, arranges appointments, greets visitors and performs associated clerical duties. Enters data or performs related computer data entry.

Minimum Qualifications

Salary Range: Salary for this position is set at $18.29/hour.
