Department Summary:

This position resides within Drake University's College of Arts & Sciences, School of Fine Arts, Department of Theatre Arts.

The Department's mission is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success as theatre artists and working professionals. To that end, the curriculum fosters understanding and appreciation for all aspects of theatre utilizing collaborative and experiential learning methods. Our faculty strive to assure our students apply knowledge and demonstrate skills acquired in the classroom in the creation of theatrical productions throughout the academic year.

This mission isn’t simply a statement, it’s a philosophy and a guiding principle of the way we teach the art and craft of theatre at Drake.

The Department is comprised of seven full-time faculty as well as teaching associates, artists and adjunct instructors.

The Department offers the BA degree in Theatre as well as BFA degrees in: Acting, Design/Technology, Musical Theatre and Theatre Education. In addition, we offer academic minors in: Design/Technology, Directing, Musical Theatre and Theatre.

Our student-body is made up of approximately 100 theatre majors and minors. The Department mounts 6 productions each year as part of our Main Stage Season.

Job Summary:

The candidate will teach two classes each semester (2 credit hours each).

Fall 2024 Semester: THEA056 Jazz has two sections. Section #1 meets M/W from 8:00am-9:15am. Section #2 meets T/H from 8:00am-9:15am.

Spring 2025 Semester: THEA058 Ballet has two sections. Section #1 meets M/W from 8:00am-9:15am. Section #2 meets T/H from 8:00am-9:15am.

Sections for both the THEA056 and the THEA058 class are divided for beginner and more experienced dancers.

The appointment will commence on August 26, 2024.

The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience teaching Ballet and Jazz dance

Preferred Qualifications:

• BFA or MFA in Dance or Musical Theatre
