Principal Financial Group Compliance Advisor in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

As a Compliance Advisor within Principal Asset Management you’ll focus on the broker dealer and investment advisers’ compliance program for electronic communications, books and records, licensing and registration, and cash/non-cash compensation!

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and provide feedback on the firm’s electronic communication policies, lexicons, and flagging parameters; research and resolve escalated messages; perform secondary review of electronic communications for certain populations; create and deliver training to reviewers using the electronic communications review tool.

  • Provide guidance on broker dealer recordkeeping requirements, including retention and purging of records

  • Identify broker dealer licensing and registration requirements and process related tasks for registered representatives and non-registered fingerprint persons. Make accurate and appropriate U4, U5, NRF, Form BR, Form BD, and other filings in both CRD and IARD. Research and reconcile variances in reports.

  • Assist with the review and approval of non-cash compensation globally including reconciliation/reporting of spending and firm limits for gifts and entertainment.

  • Complete compliance testing assignments on an ongoing basis, assist with compiling documentation in response to internal and regulatory audits, and other duties as assigned.

  • Develop compliance policy, procedure, questionnaire and/or control recommendations designed to mitigate compliance risks and prevent violations of applicable rules and regulations

  • Monitor proposed, adopted and amended rules and regulations relevant to the asset management industry; provide management updates on applicability, evaluate implications on organizational processes and advise on potential solutions/options. Lead implementation or operation of compliance programs and initiatives including proposing updates as a result of regulatory changes

  • Document compliance policies and procedures and disseminate to business areas to raise awareness; provide training as appropriate.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • 5+ years of previous broker dealer and investment adviser compliance experience

  • Active FINRA SIE or equivalent, 7 and 24 licensing

  • Familiarity with financial service products and markets, securities laws and regulations (SEC/FINRA/state/federal), and back office operations

  • Experience working with ‘40 Act Funds, ERISA, institutional clients and managed accounts preferred

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, attention to detail, analytical, problem solving, consulting and relationship building skills

  • Proficiency working with Smarsh, Red Oak, Bloomberg, CRD/IARD, and the Microsoft Office suite of applications

  • Must be able to manage expectations, attend to details, handle multiple projects, and prioritize effectively

  • Must be comfortable providing consultation and direction to individuals at varying levels within the organization

  • Must display a high level of professionalism and ability to explain complex information to individuals with varying degrees of understanding

  • Travel, including overnight stays, may be periodically needed

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$95200 - $182400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
