Job Summary:

The Education Abroad Coordinator is the primary point of contact at Drake University for students studying abroad. The coordinator guides students in the program selection process and is the primary staff member who maintains study abroad application records. The position coordinates with academic departments on course equivalencies and curricular alignment for study abroad programs. The coordinator also collaborates with units across campus to ensure efficiencies and campus-wide support for study abroad students.

This is a full-time, 11-month position with July as the month off.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree

• At least two years of work experience in education abroad or global field

• Experience living, working or studying abroad

• Strong communication and presentation skills

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications

• Ability to work some nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree

• Experience in study abroad advising

• Experience with or demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion efforts

• Experience using education abroad software (preferably Terra Dotta and/or Via)

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Job Duties:

Support students through the study abroad process, from initial inquiry through re-entry (60%)

• Advise students on Drake’s study abroad program options and the overall study abroad process, including Drake policies and government requirements. Ensure program selection fits students’ academic, personal, and professional goals.

• Manage student application and approval process using an online database. Communicate with students throughout the application stages and track their progress.

• Respond timely and thoroughly to student and parent inquiries as they relate to study abroad through email and phone calls.

• Maintain study abroad program listings and applications within study abroad software system and serve as a point of contact for the software vendor.

• Maintain relationships with outside program providers and exchange partners and serve as a key contact for them.

• Lead pre-departure orientation and re-entry programs for students.

Collaborate with academic departments on curricular alignment to study abroad portfolio (20%)

• Partner with academic programs to ensure alignment with current study abroad offerings

• Continuously work with academic programs on course equivalencies.

• Maintain high level of knowledge of Drake’s approved portfolio of programs, in particular Drake’s own short-term and semester-long programs, and how they align with degree programs.

• Develop an overall understanding of the Drake curriculum and degree requirements

Collaborate with relevant offices on campus to facilitate efficient administrative procedures that support education abroad (10%)

• Facilitate internal processes and procedures as they relate to student enrollment and payments.

• Generate reports on study abroad participation share with departments as necessary.

• Serve as a liaison to academic advisors, career center staff, Registrar’s office, financial aid office, student accounts, residence life, admissions, and other key internal stakeholders on study abroad offerings and policies.

Provide recruitment and promotional support to achieve enrollment targets for study abroad programs (10%)

• Assist with global events and activities, including the Study Abroad Fair, J-term Fair, pre-departure and re-entry, admissions events, group and classroom presentations, and more.

• Perform other duties, as assigned.

The final offered salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experiences. This is a full-time, 11-month, exempt (salaried) position with July as the month off.
