Oracle Sr. Principal Software Development Engineer in Des Moines, Iowa

Job Description

As a Senior Principal Software Development Engineer on this Team, you will be leading the effort in defining the architecture of our new suite of Cloud Operability services and tools and how they will integrate with the rest of all other OCI services, as well as working across other organization influencing change where necessary.

In your role, you are expected to design and implement distributed systems and services, be able to dive deep into any part of the stack and have a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure.

Our Senior Principal engineers are also the people who provide technical leadership to the broader organization. You should have experience developing and operating high-scale services, and an understanding of how to make these cloud-scale services resilient. You understand operational excellence and know-how to infuse a culture of being proactive within your team. You recommend and justify major changes to new and existing products and establish consensus with data-driven approaches.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or relevant technical field involving coding or equivalent practical experience

  • 10+ years of total experience in software development

  • Demonstrated ability to write great code using Java, GoLang, C#, or similar OO languages

  • Deep experience in scripting languages

  • Proven ability to deliver products and experience with the full software development lifecycle

  • Experience working on large-scale, highly distributed services infrastructure

  • Experience working in an operational environment with mission-critical tier-one livesite servicing

  • Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership, and drive

  • Experience designing architectures that demonstrate deep technical depth in one area, or span many products, to enable high availability, scalability, market-leading features and flexibility to meet future business demands

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as technical lead on a large-scale cloud service

  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining services on a public cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, Oracle)

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IAC) languages, preferably Terraform

  • Experience in developing and designing solutions with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Experience testing web-based applications with REST APIs, especially applications requiring IAM/SAML authentication.

  • Experience with observability tools and practices.

  • Strong knowledge of Computer Networking (OSI layers, HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP, Routers, Gateways, Subnets, etc.)

  • Knowledge of Linux internals, Linux/Unix troubleshooting skills

  • Able to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing (technical proposals, design specs, architecture diagrams and presentations)

  • Experience with hiring, mentorship and raising the talent bar across the organization

Responsibilities

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

US: Hiring Range: from $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
