Amazon Web Services is hiring a Sr. Product Design engineer for the Product engineering team. The product engineering team is a part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation for products used within our rapidly expanding data center foot print.

The Product Engineering team at Amazon works to design and develop resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems. As engineers at Amazon, we are responsible for achieving a world class uptime for our customers. We justify and communicate the technical decisions we make to Sr. Management and work hard to drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs. We are looking for Sr. Design engineer with hands experience in new product design and development of electrical power distribution equipment such as Low Voltage Switchgear, Power Distribution Cabinets or LV panel boards. If you can design electrical power distribution product/s and equipment, help to test and successfully test the products as per latest codes and standards using third party test laboratories then you will be good fit. You should also be able to support and establish our contract manufacturers for the manufacturing of products. You will directly lead product design and development and be a part of the process from concept to implementation. You must be capable of defining equipment specifications and evaluating the merit of design changes. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the product design field. As a product engineer at Amazon, you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including engineering service providers, manufacturers, vendors, inspectors, third party testing labs and contractors.

Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but shouldn’t be more than 50%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Your contribution could consist of leading global product design and development projects and could require developing engineering drawing and information packages. An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not necessary.

Key job responsibilities

o Supports the Data Center Design Engineering, Principal Engineering, and Hardware Engineering teams to design and develop cutting edge concepts into new products needed for power distribution for data center.

o Lead new product design, development and work with internal teams to understand design requirements and solicit customer input.

o Collaborate with other disciplines such as mechanical and structural engineering, reliability, QA/QC and compliance to create well thought out products.

o Creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements while delivering a return on investment.

o Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment, devices and bill of materials.

o Ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries.

o Prepare, Review and approval of product design and drawings including electrical bill of materials, configuration, layouts, assembly, construction and electrical wiring drawings.

o Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during manufacturing phases.

o Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly set up test processes and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.

o Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.

o Support of Operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review.

o Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.

o Having fun while offering creative, out of the box solutions.

Basic Qualifications

o Bachelor’s degree in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING.

o 8+ years of experience with protection relay, metering and support to manufacturing for application engineering of power distribution equipment.

o Electrical engineering related experience with focus on MV / LV switchgear, panel boards, PDC and protection controls.

o Familiar with different LV or MV circuit breakers applications and switchgear or switchboards construction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and able to interpret electric code NEC, NFPA, UL, ANSI C37 or IEC61439, IEC60850

  • Experience in writing and driving factory witness testing and functional testing scripts for new products.

  • Experience in design, support role to manufacturing of the products such as Switchgear, panel boards, Power Distribution Units, PLC.

  • An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability, or maintainability.

  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and develop new strategies for data center equipment. Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into prototyping/manufacturing.
