What you will do

Logistics Engineering Manager

Reports to:

  • Logistics Director at NRV Plant

Direct reports and matrix reports to the above Position:

  • GMHS PSKU’s, Logistics Engineers, Packaging Engineers, Fleet Manager, Logistic Project Managers

Key responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Overall responsibility to govern and coordinate NRV work in the areas of Logistic Engineering, packaging and Fleet Management

  • Regular follow up meetings are held with Director of Logistic

  • Mentor the Logistics Engineering organization in engineering efficient and reliable processes to guarantee the availability of parts at Point-of-Use.

  • Own and/or lead development of processes that answer the requirements of the Volvo Production system and ergonomic standards both on the line and in the preparation areas.

  • Oversee the management of space, aisle network and dock doors assignment, etc.

  • Coordinates and leads the process definition of Receiving/Warehouse and floor materials personnel engaged in picking, storing, repacking, transporting, stocking, kitting, and checking usage requirements of production material, with direct input from Internal Logistics management, Logistics management and Materials Planning management (PFEP = Plan For Every Part methodology)

  • Support Internal Logistics through Logistics Engineering work

  • manning / balancing / material façade / routing …

  • processes (receiving / Stocking / Delivery / …)

  • Plant Extension Logistics Center processes

  • Responsible for Material Handling Fleet Management - Manage acquisition and control of all Logistics related equipment (including the powered vehicle fleet, dedicated racking, hoist/lifts, etc)

  • Responsible for developing and enforcing standard ways of working with the logistics engineering and Packaging team

  • Ensures through proper direction, coaching, control, coordination and delegation that all departmental policies, programs, and assignments are carried out effectively to deliver the desired results

  • Review the progress of the materials organization in the attainment of departmental objectives and give guidance for the improvement of departmental operations

  • Plan and develop specific programs to improve operations, cut costs, and maximize productivity

  • Manage GMHS System with Key User (set up / maintain / reports)

  • Strive for continuous improvement of quality, delivery, cost and Human Resources by implementing effective measurement systems utilizing the Deming approach of Plan, Do, Check, Act

  • Coordinates the workload of department and delegates the responsibility for affecting approved objectives, policies and programs

  • Work closely with Internal Logistics Business Team Leader to ensure good communications between engineering and the shop floor (set Logistics Engineering team organization accordingly)

  • Foster and participate in all Lean activities to ensure good internal material flow

  • Act as Logistics Launch Leader for all product projects

  • Provide leadership in material flow activities to provide efficient movement of materials within plant in support of approved production rates. Required manpower levels and economic factors are to be considered key factors for continuous improvement

  • Standard Operations Procedure Development

  • Internal Logistics Cost Deployment

  • Responsible to participate Local / Regional / Global networks to contribute to the Process & System Development

  • Prepare & Manage introblock (introduction of new part numbers) activities within Internal Logistics (Logistics Launch Leader)

  • Initiate and follow up restructuring and improvement projects.

Who are you?

Essential educational and/or training qualifications and certificates:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Industrial or Manufacturing OR Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies

  • Formal training in leadership, communication and people skills

  • Six Sigma Black Belt

Essential experience and knowledge:

  • Management experience, preferably in the logistics field

  • Minimum of five years relevant experience in an industrial logistics environment

  • Minimum of five years experience in the commercial vehicle industry

  • Able to demonstrate a clear vision, global mindset and successful people and culture leadership and integration, in the geographical scope (global, regional, domestic)

  • Proven experience in implementing Lean Manufacturing Systems

  • Relevant experience working with IS/IT tools

  • Proven experience with working with Continuous Improvements

Necessary technical/functional/language skills:

  • Leadership skills with the ability to communicate and drive changes in a matrix organization

  • Proven track record leading successful projects

  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to maintain positive and cooperative

  • working relationships with both internal and external teams and customers

  • As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required.

  • Demonstrated cross-cultural experiences and competencies
