Purpose & Objectives: The Business Analyst clarifies the business needs of a group of stakeholders and helps find solutions to meet those identified needs. They think creatively, anticipate needs, test solutions and describe defects to system functionality. Additionally they monitor processes, write queries to obtain data for projects and departmental data requests, and help troubleshoot when problems arise. There is great opportunity for working creatively including designing and implementing service improvements, participating in the information gathering and testing of systems enhancements and upgrades, and continuing our established strong relationships with stakeholders and colleagues on all UMN campuses. The Business and Systems Analyst provides leadership and support for academic student services that rely on the interaction and development of student information systems and data analytics. The work will include supporting the key service areas within the Office of the Registrar deliverables such as scheduling, registration, transfer of credit, dual enrollment, and reporting and analytics. The Business Analyst will foster strong collaboration across all units within Enrollment Management and contribute to the success of the entire enterprise. II. Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities: This is a hybrid position that requires in-person presence with the potential for remote working opportunities. (70%) Business & Systems Analysis Develop a deep understanding of the relationships of student records related systems and provide direct support in the major service areas including Oracle/Campus Solutions, curricular systems (Coursedog), transfer or degree audit systems (TES, DARS, uAchieve), etc. Develop, update, and refine Structured Query Language (SQL) queries to provide data to assist with decision making and problem solving and in fulfilling data requests Assess academic policy, requirements, processes, and systems to identify issues that may impede students' progress toward their degree and academic objectives Analyze, design, program/encode, test, and troubleshoot information systems and student academic records within a major service area Assist with creating detailed test plans. Execute and document test plans, statistics, metrics, and results Support Office of the Registrar business process operations, assisting others or providing direct services in the areas of information system research and support, operational calendar maintenance, scheduling and troubleshooting technically complex batch jobs including error report reconciliation Demonstrate skills and knowledge to analyze, design, and maintain operational student records data analytics and the operational schedule for one of the major service areas Gather information for departmental analytics Understand and use best practices and industry standards for the benefit of students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders Assist and collaborate with various stakeholders on needs assessment with academic policy, business practices, and student information systems (25%) Special Projects Work in collaboration with the central Academic Support Resources (ASR) team and experts from other University of Minnesota campuses Evaluate and follow through on issues and problems that require the ability to manage scope, timeline, and resources to meet system-wide or local project deliverables that are both technical and operational, connected to our robust and complex student information systems Assist in providing resolution to system-wide integration problems; understand and implement best practice op ions for system efficiency and effectiveness Contribute to departmental efforts in the areas of system evolution and upgrades, investigation, and adoption of new services Support established processes to assure data and process integrity, monitor for process improvement and efficiencies (5%) Other Perform other duties as assigned Search Committee: Chair: Jayme Battaglia (confirmed) PJ Fernandez (confirmed) Emily Fang (confirmed) Qualifications Required A BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 4 years Preferred Six months to one year of education or experience in the areas of business systems process analysis, programming and implementation, developing queries, updating data in mass, troubleshooting, and delivering user-friendly reports. Programming experience with uAchieve/DARS and/or Oracle's Campus Solutions products Experience with MS Office and Google Suite tools Experience with writing business process documentation and specifications Demonstrated ability to manage small to medium sized projects Ability to engage stakeholders in meaningful and effective ways Demonstrated collaboration, teamwork, and leadership in an educational setting Demonstrated ability to effectively manage schedules and produce reports Demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of independence, routinely make decisions, and exercise sound judgment Demonstrated commitment to equal opportunity About the Department The primary purpose of the Office of the Registrar (OTR) is to support the University's values, mission, and objectives by serving as the office of academic records and compliance for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public.
