The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a candidate to take on the role of Traffic Control Technician. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will be responsible for conducting on-site evaluations of signing requests submitted by legislators, local municipalities, and the general public, ensuring effective communication and processing of work orders for the installation of necessary traffic control devices and related signage. You will also be tasked with entering sign work order notifications into the System Application and Products (SAP) software, coordinating efforts to guarantee that signs are installed accurately and within the designated timeframes.
Participation in meetings with consultants, government officials, local municipalities, and community members will be required to address various signing-related issues, policies, and regulations as needed. Your responsibilities will include reviewing plans for attraction and PA Logo signage, responding to inquiries from PA Logos LLC, and engaging in both preliminary and final inspections of PA Logo signing projects, while assisting the Administering Agency and design consultants in identifying appropriate locations for Tourist-Oriented Directional Signs (TODS).
You will evaluate district and consultant signing plans and shop drawings to ensure compliance with departmental standards and specifications, overseeing projects from initial design through to completion, and updating the SAP sign inventories accordingly. Training will be a key component of your role, as you will instruct all trainees, temporary staff, and interns on district signing procedures, which encompass signing reviews, the creation of sign work orders, issuing sign notifications, ordering signs, and conducting installation inspections.
You will maintain a comprehensive database of approved sign manufacturers, as well as a catalog of approved signs and materials. Assisting sign crews with tasks related to sign work orders will be part of your responsibilities, as will scheduling an annual meeting with County Assistant Managers and Sign Foremen to review departmental signing policies and preferences for the upcoming year. You will be accountable for conducting semi-annual inspections of County Maintenance emergency detour trailers and will also assist in various capacities within the Traffic Studies/Safety/Signing Unit as directed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Dunmore. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as an Engineering Technician; or Three years of experience performing transportation engineering technical assignments, such as traffic control data collection, highway sign surveys, traffic signal inspection, materials sampling, testing, or inspection, construction inspection, bridge inspection, survey work, utility relocation, roadway programs management, or roadway materials control and graduation from high school; or One year of experience performing transportation engineering technical assignments, such as traffic control data collection, highway sign surveys, traffic signal inspection, materials sampling, testing, or inspection, construction inspection, bridge inspection, survey work, utility relocation, roadway programs management, or roadway materials control; and an Associate's Degree in the field of mathematics, statistics, or a civil engineering technology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
