Initial hours of assignment:
6:00am -2:30pm (Saturday - Wednesday )
(Per contract: Subject to alternate shift)
12 months per school year
Responsibilities:
Transports various items both within and outside of the district
Lays out and marks athletic fields
operates large lawn mowing equipment
snow removal from parking lots and sidewalks
performs landscaping tasks
operates ground equipment and trucks
Typical Work Activities:
Is familiar with and contributes to the successful implementation of the District's Mission and Belief statements;
Performs a variety of grounds maintenance work, cutting grass and weeds, raking leaves;
Plants, transplants, cultivates, prunes, sprays, and trims shrubs, bushes and trees;
Assists in the maintenance and repair of all concrete and blacktop surfaces, including sidewalks, parking lots, roads, athletic fields and parks;
Operates snow removal equipment and removes snow, salts and sands driveways, sidewalks and performs other related manual tasks during the winter;
Performs routine tasks, handling of supplies, equipment, removal of rubbish, weeds grass and other debris.
Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one(1) year of experience in site maintenance work; OR
Six (6) years of experience in site maintenance or grounds maintenance work; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B); AND
Possession of a valid Class 3 New York State driver's license at the time of appointment; AND
May be required to apply for a pesticide applicator's license at the time of appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
Special Requirements:Good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of general grounds maintenance; working knowledge of the methods used in propagating, planting, cultivating, pruning and general care of plants, flowers, shrubs and lawns; working knowledge of the growth characteristics of flowers, plants and bulbs; good knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in snow plowing and maintenance of roadways, paths, entrances and exits to buildings; ability to get along well with others; initiative and resourcefulness; ability to follow written and oral instructions; industry and dependability; good judgement; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Preferred:
5 years of athletic field layout and maintainance
5 years of snow plowing experience
5 years of landscaping experience
CDL Class B Driver's License with air brake en dorsement and clean driving record
This title in this department is subject to adjusted work hours during Winter Months for th purpose of snow removal needs within WCSD
Reports to:Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Grounds Crew Chief, the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds or his/her assistant, but many tasks assigned may be routine and repetitive in nature, and once learned can be carried on without difficulty and only general supervision.
