Safety-Kleen Refinery Operator I in East Chicago, Indiana

We are seeking an eager Refinery Operator I for our East Chicago, IN location to perform and oversee various refinery plant operational duties within an industrial work environment while monitoring and controlling the refining/processing equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation.

  • Operate and monitor refinery plant equipment and processes according to established procedures and safety protocols.

  • Perform routine maintenance on refinery plant equipment and troubleshoot any issues as they arise.

  • Monitor and maintain process parameters, such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, tank levels, and chemical concentrations, to ensure optimal performance.

  • Monitor and control refinery plant emissions to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Loading railcar and trailers

  • Communicate with other plant personnel and management to coordinate activities and ensure safe and efficient operations.

  • Complete necessary documentation, including operating logs, maintenance records, and safety reports.

  • Participate in training and development programs to maintain and improve skills.

What does it take to work at Safety-Kleen, a Clean Harbors Company?

  • High School or equivalent required

  • 3 to 5 years refinery or industrial experience preferred

  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card

  • Forklift experience preferred

  • Able to follow direction and take initiative

  • Good critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Confined space or hazmat experience an asset

  • Writing permits is a plus!

  • Must be able to multi-task and work well in a team

  • Knowledge of process control systems, such as distributed control systems (DCS) preferred

  • Work in all weather conditions

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, climb on a ladder, reach, stoop, stand for long periods
