Optum Bank is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join a highly visible and dynamic team. As the COO, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing operational activities, driving growth, and ensuring operational excellence across consumer and commercial accounts, including lending and depository services. Your key areas of focus will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute growth strategies, establish performance benchmarks, and drive operational effectiveness

  • Risk Management: Safeguard operational integrity while adhering to regulatory requirements and best practices

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, shareholders, customers, and employees

  • Innovation and Customer Focus: Foster a forward-thinking, customer-centric approach to operations

In addition, this role will consist of operational oversight and ongoing development, strengthening operational initiatives and be accountable for implementing growth strategies, establishing benchmarks, driving operational effectiveness. To succeed in this role, you need to work well with all bank leaders and operational functions, inside and outside Optum Bank. The ideal candidate is strategic, collaborative, determined, and customer oriented.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement strategies and lead operational delivery across commercial and consumer lending and accounts

  • Work with executive leaders and the management team to create and communicate the vision and strategy to achieve bank and operational goals

  • Learn about internal and external initiatives, external partnerships, and business goals, and act as a thought partner and trusted advisor to business leaders

  • Work with appropriate partners to provide alternative solutions to meet project objectives, benefits, and success measures

  • Work effectively and independently in a changing and complex environment, focusing on problem-solving, teamwork, innovation, and excellence

  • Gain an in-depth knowledge of internal and external initiatives, external partnerships and business goals serving as a thought partner and trusted adviser to business leaders

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of leadership experience

  • 5+ years of experience with bank operations

  • 2+ years in commercial/consumer lending operations card ops, loan servicing

  • 2+ years in leading loan operations management and oversight of consumer and commercial loans operations staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing a large multi-million-dollar budget with demonstrated results

  • Experience in leading loan operations management and oversight of consumer and commercial loans operations staff

  • Solid knowledge of the regulatory and compliance environment for lending operations, including risk management, audit, and governance best practices

  • Solid background in bank operations, including retail, back office, cash management and fraud

  • Proven track record of success in the collections industry

  • Proven capability to partner with heads of business areas to create solid partnerships across the enterprise while delivering on critical lending objectives

  • Proven ability to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish performance benchmarks to monitor and measure operational success

  • Proven excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate upward to executive management and program sponsors

  • Proven effective time management and prioritization skills

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $147,300 to $282,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
