Hackensack Meridian Health Supervisor, Prosthetic-Orthotic Technician - Full Time in Edison, New Jersey

Supervises and provides the fabrication of prosthetic & orthotic devices following prescription criteria, practitioner specifications and established timetables. Maintains and orders adequate supplies of fabrication materials and components.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Supervisor, Prosthetic-Orthotic Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  1. Trains and supervises technicians, prosthetic/orthotic residents & students.

  2. Assigns fabrication tasks to technicians.

  3. Performs safety and quality check of devices prior to being given to the practitioner.

  4. Fabricates orthotic and/or prosthetic devices as needed.

  5. Modifications and repairs of devices due to physical changes and component wear.

  6. Acquires at least 20 PCEs annually.

  7. Contour uprights, bands and stirrups

  8. Maintains and corrects joint alignment

  9. Attaches stirrup to shoe & reattaches heels

  10. Prepares and sews leather cuffs, corsets and straps

  11. Drape molds thermoplastics

  12. Trims and finishes edges of plastic

  13. Drape molds thermoplastics

  14. Fabricates liners

  15. Laminates sockets & frames

  16. Blister molds sockets & frames

  17. Bench align prostheses

  18. Shape endoskeletal cosmetic covers and exoskeletal prostheses

  19. Laminate external layers of exoskeletal prostheses

  20. Delivery of prefabricated orthoses with instructions, wearing schedules and follow up.

  21. Records notes within 24 hours of patient encounter. -Submits Delivery Receipts or sends to billing in OPIE, to be billed on day of delivery.

  22. Adds separator to negative casts

  23. Adds correct amount of plaster

  24. Ensures minimal air bubbles in positive model

  25. Assures mandrel is correct in length & in appropriate attitude

  26. Keeps lab bench area, machine room, plaster area and other areas in the lab clean & organized.

  27. Stops work 1/2 hour before leaving to clean.

  28. Fills out requisitions for components and/or supplies.

  29. Calls in orders after approval is obtained and PO# assigned.

  30. Records in HSS, items opened, received and removed from receiving area.

  31. Assures that inventory of all supplies is adequate.

  32. Marks all chemical containers with proper CAS numbers

  33. Returns all chemical containers to proper storage areas

  34. Uses gloves and protective glasses when handling chemicals

  35. Cleans spills immediately

  36. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  37. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

  2. At least 5 years experience as a Registered O&P Technician and/or ABC or BOC certification with NJ licensure as an Orthotist and/or Prosthetist.

  3. Demonstrated skills with O&P fabrication. Skilled in staff supervision management and technical aspects of P&O.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  1. Certified Orthotist or Certified Prosthetist or Certified Prosthetist Orthotist and Orthotist License or Prosthetist License or Prosthetist & Orthotist License.

or

  1. Certified Orthotic Technician or Certified Prosthetic Technician or Certified Prosthetist Orthotist Technician.
