Greater Southern Tier BOCES TEACHING ASSISTANT - WORKSTUDY in Elmira, New York
Full-time (1.0 FTE), 7-hr day, 10-month, school calendar year position

Assists with the instruction of students
Possesses the overall ability to make good decisions
Demonstrates the ability to be a team player and promote positive and cooperative working relationships.
Proactively seek and establish work-based learning opportunities with local businesses, community organizations and volunteer clubs.
Assist with student engagement with supportive community agencies
Possesses knowledge of State and Federal Special Education regulations
Possesses good problem-solving and communication skills
Collaborates with all staff involved in the education of the students.
Possesses the ability to provide a safe, positive and caring learning environment for all students
Demonstrates knowledge of NYS graduation and CDOS requirements.
Assist in the supervision of program participants at their various work and/or work sites maintained by the program.
Assists in the development of realistic jobs and/or training opportunities for students.
Assist in matching job-ready participants with positions available in the public or private sector.
Disseminate information to students regarding job opportunities, training, or other agency programs. Attends on-the-job special training sessions, and studies appropriate materials related to the conduct of local employment and training programs.
Carries out all other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification; must possess at least a Level 1 Teaching Assistant Certificate
Experience working with students with special needs preferred
TCI is required for all Special Education teaching assistant positions
The teaching assistant must be physically able and willing to meet the academic, emotional and physical needs of all students within the classroom, which may consist of the following:
Heavy lifting (50 pounds or more), feeding, assisting with toileting, diapering, physical restraints, escorting, behavior management plans, getting up and down from the floor, walking with the students and getting into the swimming pool with the students.
- CDL license may be required
