The Knight Campus Business Operations and Administration Team (BOAT) operates as a hub of experts who provide high quality, exceptional business operations and administrative services to all units and programs in the Knight Campus. Service areas include full-cycle activities in human resources operations, financial operations, research administration/operations, academic administration/operations, and general business operations. The BOAT provides business services to all Knight Campus units which are continually growing at a remarkable pace as we scale up to achieve our mission of science advancing society with a vision to dramatically shorten the timeline between discovery and societal impact through world-class research, training, and entrepreneurship.

Position Summary

The Knight Campus seeks a detail oriented, adaptable, organized, and communicative individual to provide high-level senior business coordination for the Senior Associate Vice President for Academics and Research (SAVP), senior members of their academic leadership team, the Impact Team, and related academic programs as assigned.

The Senior Business Coordinator (Sr. BC) position will require the ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment, and exercise creative problem-solving skills at a senior level while providing exceptional administrative and business coordination. This will include managing calendars, purchasing, receiving goods and services, human resources for talent acquisition and onboarding, complex travel, event management and full-service financial operations in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and policies. Additionally, it includes problem solving for one-off or unusual circumstances with the SAVP and other academic leaders The Sr. BC will work collaboratively with academic leaders in setting up workflows and processes to achieve unit objectives and conduct internal audits or workflow reviews in partnership and under the direction of BOAT leadership.

The Sr. BC will interact regularly with external constituents, administrative colleagues, faculty, and students. Additionally, the Sr. BC will draft and distribute formal communications internally and externally on behalf of academic leader and provide senior-level project management.

This position may supervise operations personnel including but not limited to OA and SEIU employees and student workers. Over time, the Sr. BC will become a senior member within the BOAT, may help train new hires and may draft Knight Campus Standard Operating Procedures as needed.

This position will report directly to the Assistant Director for Business Operations for Research and Innovation Centers and take direction on day-to-day matters and projects from the SAVP and designated academic leaders.

Minimum Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree PLUS 4+ years of progressively responsible business operations or administration experience.

OR

• 6+ years of progressively responsible business operations or administration experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• A bachelor’s or advanced degree in Business, Finance, Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

• Professional experience as an administrator in a research-intensive university, college or institute.

• Professional experience in academic administration at a university or college of equal complexity to the University of Oregon.

• 1+ years of project management experience related to business or finance administration in higher education, research organizations or a related environment.

• 1+ years of experience with financial transactions governed by regulations and complex policies.

• Experience providing customer service in a professional environment.

• Experience with BANNER, Concur and/or similar financial information system.
