Job Summary
Hutchison High School is seeking a dedicated CTE Teacher for Carpentry and Drafting who will empower students to achieve academic, social, and technical success. The ideal candidate will create a supportive learning environment that fosters growth in multiple dimensions.
General Responsibilities
- Instruct students in alignment with the district curriculum, promoting a positive and effective learning environment.
- Support students' academic, social, physical, and emotional development.
Duties and Expectations
Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
- Exhibit mastery of content and teaching strategies.
- Understand individual learning needs and cultural characteristics.
- Set and align instructional goals with the Alaska State Standards.
- Incorporate local resources, technology, and assessments effectively.

- Foster a respectful, supportive environment that encourages learning.
- Communicate and model positive behavioral expectations.
- Organize the physical space to ensure safety and accessibility.
Domain 3: Instruction
- Communicate expectations clearly and promote engaging discussions.
- Use questioning techniques to drive student engagement and ownership.
- Show flexibility and responsiveness to different learning needs.
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities
- Reflect on teaching practices for ongoing improvement.
- Maintain accurate records and actively engage with students, families, and professional communities.
- Demonstrate professionalism and support for colleagues.
Equipment Used
- Standard office equipment, including computers, printers, projectors, SmartBoards, and more.
- Technology platforms such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and district-specific tools.
Independent Decision-Making
Make independent decisions, consulting with the building principal or district administrator when needed, following School Board policy and district guidelines.
Primary Contacts
Collaborate with school staff, building administrators, students, and families.
Supervision
Reports to the building principal and is responsible for student safety and supervision.
Working Conditions
- Some outdoor duties in extremely cold temperatures.
- Possible travel between work locations if assigned as an itinerant teacher.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, speaking, and handling physical tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to process implicit instructions, handle conflicts, and make sound decisions under pressure.
