Background: Modernization (MOD) is a critical growth sector for Otis. A major enabler for this growth is MOD products and services that are innovative, competitive, and meet customer needs. A high-performing Modernization Product Manager is essential to achieving MOD business objectives. A priority for this role will be to drive better alignment and harmony in the MOD product portfolio, in order to reduce the variation of the product line-up, given the similarities of many products that currently meet customer needs. This will be done in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders, including R&D Engineers.

Job Overview: Otis Elevator Company is seeking a Sr. Director Product Management – Modernization (Product Manager) to join its team. The Product Manager will be responsible for managing the product life cycle from ideation to launch and throughout the product lifecycle for a portfolio of modernization products, ensuring they meet customer needs and drive business growth. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, a deep understanding of customer needs, strong project management skills, and the ability to work closely with executive leaders globally to align product strategies with business objectives.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Act as a change agent within the organization, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, inspiring team members to think creatively and challenge the status quo, and being able to work with pace in a dynamic environment

  • Create and align on a global Modernization product strategy to support business objectives

  • Work with the Global modernization engineering teams to synthesize market needs and transform them into technical MOD product development requirements

  • Be responsible for ensuring that development efforts are being accomplished to the highest technical standards and integrated into the Otis product strategy in a manner that satisfies schedule, budget, technical objectives and commitments to the customer

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Sales and Marketing Leaders to plan product deployments and promotion materials

  • Conduct market research and gather customer insights to inform product development

  • Champion and adhere to the product development process, ensuring that all products are developed according to established guidelines and standards

  • Develop business cases and product requirements documents for new products and features

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, program management, sales, and marketing, to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget

  • Manage the product life cycle, including prioritizing features, tracking progress, and making data-driven decisions

  • Analyze modernization product performance and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for product enhancements

  • Develop go-to-market strategies for modernization, working closely with sales and marketing teams to ensure successful product launches

  • Monitor market trends and competitive landscape to identify new opportunities and stay ahead of the competition

  • Work with field and service leaders worldwide to identify and lead efforts to maximize commonality in installation methods and tooling, and modernize the way field documentation is created and delivered

  • Have the ability to synthesize and communicate complex engineering and product information at various levels. The MOD Product Manager is expected to have frequent interactions with Senior Executives globally

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business or related quantitative field.

  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural experience will be an advantage.

  • Agile and Scrum knowledge / experience.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skills: Ability to lead cross-functional teams, collaborate effectively, and build consensus among stakeholders

  • Technical expertise: Understanding of the technical aspects of elevators. Elevator modernization experience strongly preferred.

  • Customer focus: Ability to identify customer needs and design products that meet those needs effectively.

  • Strategic thinking: Ability to develop a long-term product vision and translate that into a product roadmap that aligns with business objectives.

  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to articulate product ideas, priorities, and goals clearly to stakeholders and team members.

  • Analytical skills: Ability to use data and analytics to make informed decisions about product development and prioritize features based on customer needs and business objectives.

  • Project management skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.

  • Collaborative mindset: The candidate should be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, program management, sales and marketing, to deliver high-quality products.

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing business needs and market conditions, and adjust the product strategy and roadmap accordingly.

  • Passion for innovation: The candidate should have a passion for innovation and a desire to push boundaries and explore new opportunities.

The salary range for this role is $175,000 - $230,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may change in the future. Pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
