Job Overview

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for planning and directing the accounting activities and oversee the payroll functions of the company. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to processing payroll, maintaining employee time records, monitoring the outflow of capital, and ensuring the company receives payment for goods and services offered to clients.

This position reports to the President and serves as a member of the accounting team. The position participates with the other members of the administration team to chart the direction of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is the oversight and ongoing improvement and implementation of the payroll, billing, and accounting processes. Additional responsibilities include data entry coordination, quality assurance, and communication with billing sources to ensure the accuracy of processing.

  • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
  • Coordinates training programs for new accounting staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
  • May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department.
  • Oversees accounting operations, which include financial accounting, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Oversees the system of internal controls over accounting functions to minimize risk.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Other supervisory duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Business Administration.

· 3-5 years prior experience in billing with general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

· 1-3 years managerial experience

· Prior experience with QuickBooks

· Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, and HRIS software

· Positive attitude along with a willingness to learn.

· Ability to quickly adapt to change.
