Description

Purpose: Produces magnetic resonance images (MRI) and computerized tomographic images (CT) of designated anatomic areas as directed to patients in accordance with established practices and procedures. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the appropriate care to the age of the patient served by the department. Population served based on scope of services in the department.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Performs scans and procedures in accordance with department practices and procedures and critiques every exam for completeness and correct labeling prior to completion in Picture Archiving Communication System (“PACS”) and prior to releasing the patient.

  • Verifies patient identification and correlates exam requests with physician’s order prior to beginning and procedure, explains the procedure to the patient, positions patient for procedure, and adjusts and operates the equipment and performs all patient procedures in a professional and timely manner.

  • Operates CT and MR scanners safely and correctly for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, documentation of images, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images and performs CT and MRI exams with strict adherence to the CT and MRI protocol.

  • Performs i-Stat testing in accordance with lab and radiology policies.

  • Performs IV cannulation using aseptic technique while minimizing pain/discomfort to the patient.

  • Reviews all non-routine studies prior to releasing patients to avoid unnecessary call backs to the department.

  • Performs daily cleaning and inspection of equipment to the assigned exam room and properly stocks assigned room prior to the start of the shift,

  • Practices safety measures in MRI/CT and the Environment of Care by recognizing potential safety hazards and responds appropriately and professionally to situations requiring immediate action and judgement.

  • Protocols exams for the next day to include that the examinations were scheduled properly and flag any contradictions.

  • Solves job-related problems (causes for artifact, minor equipment malfunctions, technique modifications, etc.) and makes the necessary adjustments and/or notify the department manager immediately of any equipment issues to ensure the best diagnostic quality study.

  • Ensures that all paperwork pertaining to the procedure to include, but not limited to the time-out, consent, brief operative note, history and physical are correct and has been properly scanned into the computer.

  • Ensures accurate, timely and professional communication when communicating with supervisors, co-workers, physicians, patients and all hospital guests, and ensures timely delivery of appropriate and high-quality services.

  • Performs other duties as required

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum two (2) years of college or technical training.

  • One (1) year of MRI and/or CT experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Maintains competency and proficiency with imaging procedures, including those that involve new or complicated exams and/or equipment by utilizing reading material and attending in-service programs.

  • General knowledge of a specialized or technical field normally associated with an A.A. or A.S. degree.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • NYS Radiologic Technologist License.

  • American Registry or Radiologic Technology Certification, CT (Computed Tomography) and MR (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
