Position Summary

A career in Financial Planning at South Jersey Industries offers the opportunity to work on the annual operating budget process, track, and report on performance relative to plan, and perform ongoing rolling forecast updates. The Financial Planning Analyst Intermediate builds and iterates on complex financial models covering all aspects of the business that will enable effective decision making regarding the company’s revenue growth strategy, cost structure, and capital expenditures. Additionally, this team member establishes, tracks, and monitors key operating metrics used to drive the business to greater efficiency. This position is also responsible for ad-hoc analysis to drive business strategy, improve efficiency, and maximize ROI. The Financial Planning team helps drive financial discipline, fact-based decision-making, and financial visibility in the organization. Essential Functions:

  • Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, and analysis of business results versus plan, projection, and prior year

  • Develop monthly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-term projections

  • Build financial models to provide insightful analysis and enhance decision-making

  • Provide on-going research and analyses necessary to support data-driven financial decisions

  • Foster a strong business partner relationship and excellent communication with Operations Management

  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities that create automation, greater efficiency, and consistency of internal processes

  • Perform other responsibilities inherent to the position as needed

Qualifications

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 2 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 0 years of relevant experience

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree

Preferred Background:

  • Prior experience in utilities and energy industry

Required Skills:

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines with accuracy in a dynamic environment

  • Multitasking abilities and flexibility to manage through the monthly reporting workflow and budget season

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, with advanced MS Excel skills including pivot tables and lookups

  • Ability to stay organized and effectively prioritize work assignment

  • Technical skills for leveraging planning tools such as Hyperion, with a willingness to learn new systems
