Orbex Space CAD Technician in Forres, United Kingdom
CAD Technician to support our structures, avionics and propulsion teams in the creation of accurate and detailed 3D models of components and assemblies of both launch vehicle and ground segment equipment.

Having developed in-house production capability, we can 3D print complex engines, produce full-scale carbon composite fuel tanks, and have avionics and software testing labs in both Scotland and Denmark. Following instruction from the engineering teams to create accurate and detailed 3D models of components and assemblies of both launch vehicle and ground segment equipment, including tooling and test fixtures
Working closely with the Structures, Avionics and Propulsion teams to help ensure that the launch vehicle master CAD definition available in the Product Data Management system is always up to date
Create 2D drawings of components and assemblies to support production and/or procurement
Ensure all drawings and models are produced in line with Orbex manufacturing and drawing standards
Support in population and maintenance of BOM and Mass track
Qualifications and Skills:
HNC or HND in a relevant aerospace/mechanical engineering subject or apprenticeship
Proficient in the use of CAD (SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, NX) and in the generation of technical and production drawings in accordance with relevant standards
Proficient in file management systems, (PDM, TeamCentre)
Ability to read, understand and follow detailed schematics, drawings and instructions
Proactive and strong team player with excellent communication skills
Adaptable and able to work under pressure to tight timescales
High attention to detail
Excellent communication skills (written & verbal), numeracy and IT
Essential Experience:
2+ Years CAD experience in a technical engineering environment
Desirable Experience:
Knowledge of BS:8888
Understanding of GD&T
Demonstrated experience with detail design and verification of mechanical hardware for space systems
Familiarity with metallurgy, material selection and material coatings for space applications
Knowledge of composite materials and their associated manufacturing processes
Experience with mechanical and materials testing
Experience with cryogenic fluids

This role is based in Forres at Orbex’s headquarters.

Salary of £32,000 - £40,000

Our roles need to be on-site in Scotland due to the nature of the position, export controls and security, but we are happy to sponsor visas for you and your family and provide relocation assistance as required which includes a relocation allowance and 1 month of temporary accommodation in the local area.
Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to gain BPSS clearance which includes a criminal record check.
