Description of Work Unit
The Colorado State University Department of Athletics sponsors 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports and competes as a member of theNCAADivision I-FBSand the Mountain West Conference. The University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 65 miles north of Denver. Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Strategic Communications and Brand Enhancement is responsible for directing communications and media relations efforts for the institutions NCAA Division I- FBS intercollegiate athletics program that sponsors 16 men’s and women’s sports The position has primary responsibility for a highly visible sport within the department determined by the Senior Director for Communications and Brand Enhancement, but will also be available to assist the staff with other sports as needed.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, business, sports administration, liberal arts or any other field related to duties and responsibilities
Minimum of two years of full-time experience in athletics media relations required
Proficiency in desktop publishing software, including InDesign and Photoshop required
Proficiency in StatCrew & NCAA Live Stats systems required
Proficiency in Web site content management systems required
Knowledge of appropriate NCAA regulations and willingness to support the Department’s commitment to a culture of compliance required
Strong written and interpersonal communications skills
Ability to run an event from all aspects of media relations/communications needs and requirements
Willingness and availability to work nights and weekends and travel
Ability to multi-task, prioritize duties and meet deadlines
Ability to effectively interact with local, regional and national media on a variety of issues related to highly visible intercollegiate athletics teams
Ability to work well in a team environment with other staff members, coaches and student-athletes
Preferred Job Qualifications
Previous experience with digital media content creation
Previous experience working full-time in intercollegiate athletics
Previous experience managing social media accounts on multiple platforms for multiple teams and athletic department units
Demonstrated experience collaborating with other Athletics units such as Marketing, Gameday Experience, Ticket Office, Development, and on-campus constituents

Handle all of the day-to-day communications/media relations duties for assigned sports, including primary responsibility for a highly visible sport within the department, determined by the Senior Director for Communications and Brand Enhancement, while assisting the staff with all other sports as needed.
Facilitating program interview and media requests with local, regional, national and niche media and social media influencers
Producing game stories, press releases and media guides, including writing and editing communication materials, bios, postseason publications and feature stories for various platforms
Coordinating access for media interviews with high-visibility student-athletes and coaches
Regularly updating and providing editorial content for CSURams.com, the official Website of Ram Athletics
Maintaining multiple social media accounts pertaining to assigned sport(s) and the Department in general

Represent the University and Athletics Department at official functions in a responsible and professional manner
Participate as a member of the Strategic Communications and Brand Enhancement staff by attending meetings and collaborating on initiatives that serve the best interests of CSU Athletics
Ensure compliance with all departmental, University, MW and NCAA procedures, rules and regulations
Report knowledge of any NCAA rules violations and support the Department’s commitment to a culture of compliance
Assist Senior Director for Communications and Brand Enhancement with ensuring unit is an inclusive environment for staff and continuously strive for inclusive excellence and meeting department’s guiding principles.
Work in tandem with the Director of Digital Media and Senior Director for Communications on general athletic department social media channels (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram) and social media strategy; content creation, and program implemental for assigned sports.
Serve as the primary contact for assigned sports social media management (Facebook, X, Instagram)
Perform other duties as assigned.
