POSITION PURPOSE - located in Fort Wayne, Indiana

The Patient Assistance Pharmacy Technician in Training will participate in a work learning program to become a licensed pharmacy technician in the state of Indiana and trained for the role of Patient Assistance Pharmacy Technician. The role of the Patient Assistance Pharmacy Technician is to ensure proper processing and problem solving of specialty prescriptions to provide a high level of service. Provides customer service, receives patient prescriptions, reviews medication list with patient, assists in preparing and dispensing medications and supplies, answers phones and triages patient phone calls to pharmacist and/or nursing as necessary, and helps maintain the pharmacy in proper order. Ensures high level of customer service and teamwork to provide optimal service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

  2. Ensures the accuracy of prescription and patient data entered into various systems by verifying patient, drug, quantities, directions, day’s supply, insurance, and physician data.

  3. Creates physician profile in computer systems, demographics, DEA, NPI numbers.

  4. Inputs insurance, pharmacy and medical information; Initiates required prior authorizations when benefit investigation is not required; resolves aspects of specialty pharmacy insurances, including Medicare, Medicaid, PBM, and PPO and communicates with payers and advises patients or physician of results when needed.

  5. Adjudicates and reviews prescription insurance claims and patient financial assistance plans of medications to be delivered to patients and providers.

  6. Comprehends different type of patient financial assistance available and understand requirement for patient eligibility and application submission

  7. Communicates and supports all pharmacy teams as needed to coordinate timely prescription adjudication to meet delivery schedules.

  8. Supports prescription updates for NDC changes.

  9. Performs the appropriate contact to physician offices for refill authorizations.

  10. Manages inactive and expired prescriptions.

  11. Reports errors, omissions, or incidents to pharmacist.

  12. Assists the Pharmacist in reviewing, picking, processing, preparing, filling, labeling and dispensing of medications, supplies, and patient education material. Assists pharmacist in all other responsibilities, as appropriate.

  13. Maintains safe and clean working environment and equipment.

  14. Monitors and maintains all required temperature logs as per policy and procedures.

  15. Assists stocking inventory, i.e. medication, supplies, and patient educational materials in the appropriate and assigned location in the pharmacy. Checks medication and administration supply inventory for out-of-date products, removes out-of-date products from inventory and works with the appropriate resource to record out-of-date products while performing Fulfillment functions and inventory counts. Assists with full inventory and cycle counts and manage mins and max levels of inventory

  16. Assists with the drug recall process and returns when necessary.

  17. Maintains productivity rates and meet quality expectations determined by management.

  18. Triages all clinical calls to clinical staff.

  19. Participates in quality program initiatives and improvement activities.

  20. Complies with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA/HITECH.

  21. Other responsibilities as assigned by Management.

  22. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have a high school diploma or GED

  2. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

  3. Knowledge of Microsoft office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  4. Must possess a high level of customer service skills

  5. Must complete the required training and become a licensed pharmacy technician in the state of Indiana within one year of starting

  6. Must possess a personal presence characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to set and organize own work priorities, and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles. Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures. Frequent immobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending and stooping required. Requires manual dexterity to operate keyboard, calculator, photocopy machine, and other office equipment. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read reports and computer terminals. Requires hearing within normal range for telephone use. Work in a fast-paced production environment. Normal office environment and/or standing for prolong periods. Occasional high stress work.
