Team overview:

This role is part of the Markets Tax Operations Team in Germany at Citigroup Global Markets Europe AG (CGME).

The Team is responsible for the execution of CGME’s German Withholding Tax framework and other CGME related Tax tasks with a strong focus of daily tasks.

The Markets Tax Operations team works closely with Citi’s internal stakeholders and external vendors in order to interpret, adapt and implement German Tax requirements for CGME’s tax compliance setup.

In the role as a Markets Tax Operations Analyst, you will be part of the Markets Operations Team in Germany located in Frankfurt. Main tasks are to execute the Business As Usual (BAU) lifecycles and supporting internal and external initiatives/ projects.

Role description:

This position ensures end-to-end governance of Market Operations Tax readiness.

As a Markets Tax Operations Analyst you will:

  • Monitor the Service Delivery for Markets Operations within CGME

  • Ensure stable processing of all tax relevant topics for CGME markets business

  • Execute BAU related processes:

  • Ensure correct client tax code set up within the client on-boarding process

  • Static Data maintenance and reconciliation

  • Reconciliation of Tax related cash bookings

  • Support of German WHT and 871m related payments for CGME related Warrants business and processing of reporting incl. issuance of German Tax Vouchers

  • Supporting regular tax reporting (e.g., 1042s, CRS/FATCA, Steueroasenabwehrgesetz, Abzugsteuerentlastungsmodernisierungsgesetz)

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders:

  • Ensures the quality and service of tax related function, escalate issues and bring appropriate closure.

  • Troubleshoot to resolve systemic issues for clients in connection with German tax treatment.

  • Support and strengthen Client needs in an efficient, effective and professional manner and handle exceptional requests.

  • Detect and lead initiatives to improve the level of automation within the team

  • Support the client outreach for documentation renewals

  • Apply a good understanding of procedures and concepts across the bank owned processes to ensure appropriate steps and controls are being taken

  • support the Manager with internal and external requests (e.g., internal/ external audits)

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent combination of education/experience

  • Experience of managing within a highly regulated environment

  • Knowledge of banking Front-to-End Operation processes

Experience/Knowledge:

  • 3-5 years banking Operations experience

  • Experience in Markets Products

  • Knowledge of the current German tax regulation impacting the broker-dealer business (i.e., Abzugsteuerentlastungsmodernisierungsgesetz, Steueroasenabwehrgesetz, Investmentsteuer- and Einkommensteuergesetz)

Skills:

  • Ability to effectively work to tight deadlines

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks at the same time

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and German

  • Very good Communication skills

  • Support discussions with multiple stakeholder and different thinking

  • Negotiation skills

  • Knowledge of front-to-back bank processes

  • Experienced in creating new and reviewing existing workflows and associated procedures

  • Project experienced, as part of a project team or as project manager
