This position is a full-time position with work hours Monday to Friday and is located at our East location at 2L and 2M Estate Concordia in Christiansted. The federal Head Start program is a nationally recognized leader in the field of early childhood education for providing innovative, high-quality services to the children and families who will most benefit from early education and comprehensive services. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate environment for infants and toddlers and enhance their growth and development while strengthening parent-child bonds and the parenting skills of at-risk parents by offering opportunities for parents to participate fully in their children's daily lives. Duties and Responsibilities: Bus Monitor - Assists the bus driver in transporting children to and from designated pick-up areas to the Early Head Start Center. Assume Driver role if needed. - Transports children, staff, and parents on field trips and meetings whenever assigned. - Maintains the safety of the vehicles, including adequate fuel level, lubricants, properly inflated tires, lights, and all safety devices. Maintain bus in clean and sanitary condition. Conduct daily pre/post inspections and reports any possible problems or concerns to the EHS Coordinator. - Make necessary arrangements for servicing emergency supplies, including fire extinguisher, safety equipment, tool kit, and other equipment are maintained and properly stored or mounted in accordance with EHS performance standards. - Maintains the safety of children at all times while boarding, riding and departing the busses. Ensure children are secured in age and weight-appropriate child safety restraints. - Plans activities to support the implementation of safety education for parents, children, and staff while loading and unloading, during transit, during recruitment, in routine communications with parents, and in the classrooms per EHS Performance Standards requirements for pedestrian/safety education. - Report any suspected child abuse and/or neglect to the EHS Director or other designated program personnel. - Display role model appropriate interactions on the bus for children and parents that provide learning in a safe and healthy environment. - Carry out established procedures for health and safety. - Carry out established procedures for handling emergencies. Written emergency procedures are in a visible location on the vehicle. Child's emergency cards are readily available to driver, aids, and emergency rescue personnel. - Assist agency and client families in preparing for hurricanes or other natural disasters. - Abides by local traffic laws at all times. Disclose all moving traffic violations, regardless of penalty, to the designated individual. Teacher Aide - Assists classroom teachers in the care and education of the children to include assisting with feeding children, brushing teeth, washing hands, diapering, toileting, holding infants, singing. - Attends all required training sessions and meetings. - Accepts supervision and direction from supervisors. Knows and follows Lutheran Social Services personnel policies and EHS staff policies and procedures. Kitchen Support - Responsible for assisting the Cook with food preparation, service, and clean-up. - Assists in the preparation of nutritious meals and snacks for children; prepares substitute items for children on restricted diets. - Adheres to kitchen maintenance and cleaning schedule. - Sweeps and washes all kitchen floors, food storage areas, and surrounding areas. - Practices safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage. - Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Maintain an excellent driving record and prefer a minimum of three years in the U.S. Virgin Isla ds. - Must possess good communication skills and an ability to follow oral and written instructions. - Must have an understanding and awareness of the needs of low-income families. - Must have the ability to work with people from various ethnic backgrounds. - Must demonstrate an appropriate professional demeanor and appearance at all times. - Knowledge of early childhood nutrition. - Knowledge of production cooking. Minimum Qualifications: - Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred or willing to obtain CDL within one year of hire and maintain it as current. Must provide a copy of current certificate or card to EHS Director. - Must complete an annual physical examination and random drug testing. - Must have a High School diploma or equivalent. - Must have a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA); otherwise, must be enrolled in a CDA or relevant ECE course and provide proof of course completion date within 6 months of hire. - Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. - Maintain compliance with valid CPR/First Aid certification and Food Handler's Card.
