The Manager Facility/Regional SH&E leads cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence in Safety, Health, and Environmental Sustainability. This position drives SH&E improvements in compliance by providing leadership, development, implementation, and execution of SH&E Programs. The primary object of this role is to protect and improve the Safety & Health of employees and site Environmental Sustainability through prevention, encouragement of a culture where safety, health and environmental sustainability are ingrained as a core value.

Key Outputs / Deliverables (position)

Provide SH&E Leadership (30%)

  • Effectively lead, coach, and develop managers and line leaders across all functions to be effective SH&E leaders/coaches in their respective positions.

  • Foster a culture where Safety, Health, and Environmental Sustainability are ingrained as a core value.

  • Develops Site SH&E talent through active support, coaching and feedback with the goal of developing talent.

  • Actively participate and engage the SHE committee team to act as an extension of the SH&E Team

  • Identify SH&E priorities, current & future challenges, and opportunities for improvements. Develop a holistic strategy and implementation plan, aligned with Group priorities & objectives. Guide implementation and communication of the strategy across NiM.

  • Develop SH&E best-in-class programs, systems, and processes, including training and mentoring to establish clear procedures on SH&E measures and precautions.

Implement Management Systems (20%)

  • Ensure investigation of all SH&E-related incidents are properly conducted utilizing tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure all actions to prevent recurrence are effectively implemented while also ensuring an effective injury case management process is fully implemented, well understood, and functioning as desired.

  • Maintain a budget that will support the SH&E functions of the Business. Will also assist other Department Managers in allotting appropriate funding to complete SH&E goals.

  • Ensure sites maintain continuous “audit ready” state of compliance with company SH&E policies and procedures as well as all applicable external regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and implement processes and procedures (SOP's) to ensure facility compliance with company and regulatory agency policies – including federal, state, and local legislation and also regulations pertaining to worker safety and preservation of the environment.

Assess and Manage Risks (20%)

  • Analyze SH&E conditions to recommend and drive changes to continuously improve facility SH&E performance.

  • Lead effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes across sites to ensure these are effective at identifying and mitigating hazards and are effectively communicated and understood by all affected employees.

  • Assist in updating security risk and threat assessments relating to the facility and will escalate deficiencies identified.

Delight Consumers and Live up to Stakeholder Expectations (15%)

  • Create a compelling understanding of Nestle SH&E values and inspire stakeholders to excel in compliance & continuous improvement, leveraging NCE Foundations and Advanced Practices (e.g. TPM, Lean Value Stream).

  • Engage with external stakeholders (eg regulatory bodies, trades unions, NGOs) on SH&E topics to build long term, positive relationships.

  • Maintain and report accurate SH&E data/metrics at the site as well as in designated Nestle systems.

Protect the Future by Making the Right Choices (15%)

  • Ensure the practical implementation and day-to-day compliance with applicable Security and SH&E guidelines.

  • Provide overall input site SH&E sustainability initiatives, strategies, programs, and procedures.

The Manager Facility/Regional SH&E receives guidance and coaching from the Corporate SH&E Director for T&P while under direct supervision from the Site Manager. This position will work directly with all site functions for successful implementation and adherence of SH&E policies and practices. Such functions include HR, Engineering, Industrial Services, Operations, Maintenance, TAG, & Operations Excellence. A strong relationship with these functions is key for success in this position.

The Manager Facility/Regional SH&E will work with Environmental Specialists for assistance on environment-related issues/projects as well as environmental regulatory authority visits. The Manager/Facility/Regional SH&E will also collaborate with the Environmental Specialist and Industrial Services Team on sustainability opportunities and implementation strategies. The Manager Facility/Regional SH&E is responsible for Environmental compliance at their site.

Key Relationships External to Nestlé Group – Share interests (position)

  • Key point of contact for SH&E regulatory authorities. Important to establish and develop long-term positive rapport with applicable regulatory authorities.

  • Collaborate with contractors for pre-work safety planning or other SH&E related items.

  • Main point of contact for suppliers & service providers for SH&E related activities.

Qualifications / Certifications

  • A B.S. degree in safety, health, environmental or similar discipline preferred.

  • Professional certifications in SH&E-related fields are considered beneficial and may include CSP, CIH, OHST, NEBOSH, etc.

Critical Experiences (position)

  • 5+Years’ experience with Safety, Health, and Environment program development, implementation, and training: examples include: Lockout/tagout, confined space entry, chemical hygiene, respiratory protection, fall protection, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, chemical management, and Behavior Based Safety (BBS).

  • Proven experience and a solid understanding of ISO 14001, OHSAS 45001, LEAN and TPM concepts and their relationship to production/engineering and job functions as it relates to building in prevention.

  • Detailed knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations

  • Solid technical understanding of SH&E issues and their relationship to production/engineering and job functions as it relates to building prevention.

  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with minimal direct supervision and have strong demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and self-initiative skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence across a diverse range of people from Corporate /Division leadership to a factory floor associate.

  • Proven track record to drive sustainable organizational change.

  • Capacity to think both strategically and tactically and quickly flow across the two.

  • Strong demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be detailed and results oriented.

  • Ability to communicate sophisticated regulatory and technical issues in lay terms.

  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to master other specialized software.

  • Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills.

  • Ability to take proactive approach to anticipated issues and process improvement.
