A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform failure analysis; provide expertise and leadership to resolve scientific and engineering challenges within the business in support of research, technology, development, and operations.

  • Identify and lead failure analysis efforts within a cross-functional team environment.

  • Perform problem definition, data collection and analysis, interpretation of results, presentation to peer reviewers, and writing reports.

  • Present results and conclusions in written and/or oral form to audiences of engineers, scientists, and functional managers.

  • Devises and implements ad hoc and long-term methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating devices for the Returned Product Analysis lab.

  • Supports current and new products in the Returned Product Analysis lab including validations of test methods and equipment and training technicians on the new product.

  • Established and productive individual contributor. Works independently with general supervision on larger, moderately complex projects / assignments.

  • Sets objectives for own job area to meet the objectives of projects and assignments. Contributes to the completion of project milestones. May have some involvement in cross functional assignments.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Minimum of 2 years of quality engineering experience

Nice to Have

  • Skill in application of analytical methods and techniques used in failure analysis

  • Experience with electro-mechanical subsystems, metals, polymers, and ceramics

  • Understanding of process-structure-property relationships

  • Hands-on knowledge and experience using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), sample preparation equipment, and materials characterization techniques.

  • Knowledge in the areas of fracture, fatigue, metallography, and fractography.

  • Familiarity with statistical data analysis methods.

  • Knowledge of test method validation, equipment qualification, and non-product software validation.

  • Experience working in a lab setting.

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and specific CA locations). The rate offered complies with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
