Job Description:

Genetic Test Coordination:

  • Prepares patient records for clinical genetic testing and research testing

  • Facilitates sample collection (blood, saliva, etc.) and prepares the genetic testing kit for shipping

  • Works closely with various laboratories during the pre-authorization process. Executes requests for primary care physician's medical necessity letters.

  • Understands Medicare guidelines for testing pre-authorization

  • Assists in necessary preparation of documentation for test processing.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with nationwide genetic, medical and research laboratories.

  • Guides patients through genetic testing process: completing paperwork, facilitating sample collection (blood, saliva), and preparing the genetic testing kit for shipping.

  • Coordinates sample collection.

  • Assures the safe package of blood samples, saliva samples and tumor samples to the appropriate labs.

  • Assures the timely arrival of test results and notifies the genetic counselor about any problems/delays in testing

  • Maintains a database of testing status for all patients with regular review for current status.

Florida Newborn Screening Coordination:

  • This position provides assistance to Genetic Counselors and the metabolic nutritionists in receiving, tracking and coordination of follow up of referrals received from the State of Florida's Newborn screening program.

Ordering Metabolic Formula and other supplies as necessary:

  • Collaborate with metabolic nutritionists in the authorization, ordering and shipping of metabolic formulas, low protein foods and other supplies for patients with inborn errors of metabolism

Miscellaneous:

  • Work with a team of genetic counseling assistants and clerical staff to contact patients regarding their appointments

  • Assist in creating medical charts in Epic

  • Assist with scanning clinical documentation into Epic and patient medical records

Expected Salary:

$12 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all University of Florida degree-seeking students registered at least half-time who are eligible to work on campus and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. A current Federal Work-Study award for the 2024-2025 Academic School Year is required. This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursing a bachelors degree with an interest in public health, genetics, nutrition, and/or genetic counseling.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Experience with Epic (or other electronic medical records system).

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Willingness to learn
