Job Description:

We are seeking a full-time, time-limited Project Coordinator to lead and manage field operations for the Everglades Wading Bird Project and related research. This role involves coordinating, training, and supervising a field crew (3-5 members) to conduct aerial and ground surveys, as well as managing data and collaborating on research projects during the off-season.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Coordination: Supervise field technicians, refine survey protocols, and coordinate aerial and ground surveys. Serve as a liaison with other agencies and researchers. Participate in project discussions and provide recommendations. Manage expenditures and maintain field equipment.

  • Logistics Planning:Collaborate with the PI and program coordinators to plan and organize monitoring efforts. Use in-depth understanding of project goals to coordinate aircraft-based and UAV monitoring.

  • Data Management: Implement data entry procedures, ensure quality control, and oversee maintenance of field equipment. Draft agency reports and collate survey results.

  • Reporting: Draft and compile reports for various agencies, including annual reports and permit requests.

  • Hiring: Oversee hiring of seasonal field crews and participate in hiring other lab personnel as needed.

Expected Salary:

$52-55K, commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of environmental research and field survey techniques; experience with ecological field work and research, with emphasis on wading birds

  • Experience in supervising field teams and coordinating research activities.

  • Proficiency in data management and report writing.

  • Ability to drive a state vehicle and manage field equipment.

  • Airboat license and extensive operating experience

  • Experience navigating challenging terrain

  • Experience maintaining and repairing airboats and other heavy equipment

  • Experience working on collaborative teams with ecologists and environmental scientists
