Job Summary

Black & Veatch professionals work on sustainable solutions to some of today’s biggest energy challenges. As an Electrical Engineer , you’ll join a dynamic and technically focused global Electrical Engineering team, supporting projects across multiple sectors including renewables (Solar PV, BESS, onshore wind, offshore wind, hydrogen and marine energy), data centres and conventional power.

You’ll be involved in a wide variety of design tasks with a focus on grid connection, substation and transmission infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with our production team in India and your colleagues within the EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) region, including cross-functional working with other engineering disciplines and our client-facing solution leads. The role primarily supports UK based projects from feasibility studies and FEED right through to construction in owners engineer roles. You’ll also have the opportunity to support projects throughout the wider region as you develop into the role.

This role will be based in our Glasgow office, with the option to work from home two days per week. Some travel to remote sites may be required, so please note you must be able to drive for this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Work effectively on several projects concurrently.

• Undertake engineering and design of multiple energy/power related projects.

• Participate in site visits and client meetings.

• Liaise and coordinate with external organisations.

• Working alongside senior engineers to undertake feasibility studies, calculations, design, specifications and reports for various energy and power related projects.

• Provide grid connection and compliance support for renewable energy projects.

• Assist with various marketing and tender initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering

• Some relevant UK work experience in electrical engineering design

• An understanding of UK Grid Code

• An understanding of substation and power transmission infrastructure

• You must have the legal right to work in the UK.

• English language proficiency at C1/2 standard (written and spoken)

• Full UK Driving Licence.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge areas:

• Key renewables energy technologies such as; power plant, wind, solar, and battery energy storage.

• Power generation, transmission and distribution networks.

• Typical electrical power system studies (Load Flow, Short Circuit, Losses.).

• Electrical infrastructure and plant specification and arrangement for renewable energy projects.

• Main electrical equipment / cable sizing calculations.

Additionally, it would be beneficial to have some knowledge of: power system analysis software such as DigSilent, PSCAD or ETAP; Grid connection and TSO/DNO interfaces; Feed in Tariff (FIT) and Renewables Obligation (RO); UK Grid Code.

Skills:

• Technical analysis

• Ability to effectively communicate to different stakeholders.

• Time management is key to this role so an ability to manage multiple tasks throughout your working week is paramount.

• Highly numerate and well-developed MS Excel skills (ideally including VBA, and Python).

• Well-developed report writing skills, using MS Word.
