Purpose of Role

This role relates to small-pack Secondary Logistics for the GB market as part of the GB Supply Chain team.

The purpose of the role is to support the Diageo Supply Chain teams and partner with the other Secondary Move Managers (Derby & Runcorn) to deliver customer service and cost for the GB market by optimizing the 3PL warehousing and transport network in a safe operating environment. While managing one of the two warehouses the role requires a full understanding of the other warehouse operation and the broader supply chain.

Dimensions :

Financial

  • This role is a key contributor towards providing the most effective operational delivery by the 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) providers for each warehouse. The total annual Logistics spend in GB is c£36million.

Market Complexity

  • Delivering c40million actual smallpack cases the GB market is supplied via three 3PL warehouses in Scotland, north-west England and the Midlands. While each has a specified geographical and customer allocation the sites must ensure flexibility across the country in order to cope with seasonal peaks.

  • The GB market also offers the unique opportunity to influence the end-to-end integrated supply chain, as the 3 main production sites are in GB. This extends to the option of supplying customers direct from factory.

  • Additionally, the network includes re-worker operations and a keg beer facility.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will have responsibility for 3PL performance, customer service, eliminate loss & waste and deliver productivity initiatives through partnering with colleagues in Diageo Supply Chain and our 3PLs.

Accountabilities

OPERATIONAL

  • Manage the 3PL to secure optimised GB supply network

  • Translate weekly forecasts into robust operational plans

  • Support network efficiency and flag any risks to the Secondary Move Manager – GB

  • Cover Logistics standards in the local re-work site

GOVERNANCE & COMPLIANCE

  • Manage 3PL performance in accordance with external and internal standards.

  • Manage the 3PL to Diageo H&S standards

  • 3PL compliance to all contractual standards and policies

  • Chairing daily and weekly Tier meetings

  • Business Continuity Planning with 3PL and Diageo

  • Hold 3PL accountable for critical metric performance and insights

  • Monthly and Quarterly 3PL Performance Reviews

  • Making onsite quality assessments on inbound or any customer concerns

FINANCIAL

  • Understand the operational cost base of the 3PL and the impact of Diageo Supply Chain decisions on these costs

  • Identify inefficiencies and waste.

  • Manage in a continuous improvement environment using operational insights to identify and deliver savings

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Educated to degree standard in customer service / supply chain management, or able to demonstrate Leadership expertise and experience when working in partnership with a wide range of business partners.

  • Previous experience in Logistics Management

  • Proficient user of SAP and Microsoft Excel

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to role

  • Ability to think end-to-end for integrated logistic opportunities

  • Ability to communicate and influence others

  • Ability to manage uncertainty and flag risks as appropriate

  • Ability to partner with external collaborators at both senior and operational level
