Rowan University Assistant Director, Testing Services in Glassboro, New Jersey

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Testing Services is the leader of a multifaceted and evolving Testing Center and associated processes as the mission and services of the Testing Center expand. This professional will coordinate all activity of the Testing Center; expand the mission and services of the Testing Center to include offering additional tests to both Rowan students and the public as staffing and space permit; organize and promote alternative credit-earning opportunities to assist Rowan students with timely degree completion; oversee administration of placement testing requirements; administer the Inspiroscan system for students and faculty; ensure compliance with ADA requirements for assessment for students with disabilities; and provide a high level of responsiveness and service to students, faculty, staff, and academic leadership. This position requires a high level of energy, autonomy, initiative, ability, and willingness to learn; excellent leadership, organizational and communication abilities; and an entrepreneurial and innovative approach. The Assistant Director will report to the Senior Director of Accessibility Services and directly supervises numerous part-time employees and student staff members. This position is an opportunity to enhance student retention and progress toward graduation and careers while envisioning and directing the expansion of the Testing Center.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day management of all Testing Center activities

  • Supervise, coordinate, train, and support clerical staff, proctors, and student workers regarding procedures and protocol for all tests offered in the Testing Center

  • Coordinate the administration of placement testing and assist students with understanding and acting on the results

  • Coordinate the administration of fee-for-service tests such as the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

  • Coordinate the administration of exams for students with disabilities, in compliance with ADA

  • Ensure maintenance and full functionality of the Testing Center's computer lab.

  • Research and implement administration of additional tests to be offered in the Testing Center, as staffing and space permits.

  • Organize and promote alternative credit-earning opportunities to assist Rowan students with timely degree completion (e.g., CLEP)

  • Maintain accurate records of Testing Center activity, including monthly and annual reports of activity and financial transactions

  • Serve as a liaison and foster intentional relationships with other University offices, colleges, departments, and individual faculty regarding Testing Center functions

  • Participate in Admissions and New Student activities (e.g., Open House, Orientations)

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Testing Center's goals and objectives

  • Engage in appropriate professional development activities to stay abreast of evolving research and trends for best practices in Testing Services

  • Lead the functioning for the InspiroScan system and ensure efficient and secure service for students and faculty

    • Manage receipt, scanning and return or storage of InspiroScan jobs.
  • Maintain scanning equipment

  • Renew licensing for InspiroScan annually

  • Recruit, hire and train staff for InspiroScan functions

  • Update and maintain the InspiroScan Services Web Page

  • Placement Testing

  • Coordinate with departmental representatives regarding the administration of placement tests, including appropriate score interpretation and coordinating updates to testing materials for Writing and Chemistry annually in Canvas

  • Coordinate with the University Advising Center regarding the creation of first semester schedules for incoming students

  • Attend Onboarding committee meetings as a representative of Testing Services for the placement testing process

  • Update and maintain the Placement Testing Web Page

  • Coordinate the uploading of Accuplacer Scores

  • Update and maintain materials for students to understand their placement testing results

  • Update and maintain job aids for stakeholders for placement testing requirements

  • Create and host training sessions for Advisors and other stakeholders regarding placement testing requirements

  • Monitor use of testing units and re-order as needed

  • Trouble shoot score uploading and voucher issues

  • Manually review and upload scores received from other academic institutions

  • Coordinate with ASCEND and International Center Staff to arrange placement testing dates for specific populations

  • Accommodated Testing for students with disabilities (ADA Accommodations)

  • Create and present Accommodated Testing Information Sessions for instructors and students

  • Update and maintain the Accommodated Testing Web Page

  • Update and maintain written materials for instructors and students regarding policies and procedures for Accommodated Testing

  • Collaborate with campus partners and University Scheduling to arrange alternative testing locations during busy periods such as Final Exams

  • Ensure compliance for Rowan University with delivering ADA-compliant settings and services

  • Provide excellent service and support to Rowan students, faculty, and staff, and to members of the public using Testing Center services.

  • Understand the institution’s interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.

  • Plan and monitor the Testing Center budgets

  • Occasional evening or weekend work is required.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Required:

Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Business Administration, or other related field. Minimum two years of relevant professional experience in an educational or business setting with experience with student or customer service and conducting multifaceted operations.

Experience (Required and Preferred):

Required: Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytic skills; expertise with Microsoft Office programs, student information systems (Banner), and internet; and high-level customer service attitude. Ability to perform multiple tasks at one time, communicate effectively with faculty and staff, keep information confidential, and to learn and implement detailed procedures.

Preferred: Prior experience with envisioning and transforming multifaceted operations. Understanding and appreciation of issues regarding standardized testing, alternate credit opportunities, and basic skills/developmental education. Experience working in a Testing Center in a post-secondary educational institution; knowledge of alternative routes to earning college credit (e.g., CLEP testing; prior learning assessment); knowledge of testing protocol and attributes such as reliability and validity; interest in and ability to expand the number of tests offered in the Testing Center.
