The Apparel CAD Designer is responsible for creatively developing print and pattern designs and creating and leading the development of own brands and their packaging for all areas of Merchandising.

Position follows hybrid schedule: Monday-Wednesday in office, Thursday-Friday remote.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Establish creative and production processes for packaging artwork execution.

  • Direct creative of all packaging components and manage designers to execute new designs, redesigns, production and standards.

  • Manage the artistic translation of the company’s brand strategy into own brand package designs.

  • Maintain photo and illustrative resource base and provides creative photography direction.

  • Manage team resources (internal and external) to effectively execute processes.

  • Develop and manage process timelines and annual budgets.

  • Develop and communicate own brand strategies and assure they are upheld.

  • Build functional expertise within the team to operate cross functionally.

  • Work with Product Development Team on seasonal calendar in order to manage key creative activities in the line development process to ensure design/merchandising requirements are met.

  • Work with Product Manager to understand seasonal pattern work needs.

  • Design seasonal print and pattern work for line development which includes prints, yarn dyes, logos, appliqués, graphics, and embroidery.

  • Format all artwork development for transmission in Tech Packs.

  • Work with Product Manager in reviewing all pattern strike-offs and handlooms.

  • Assist in recommending resolutions to artwork issues.

  • Update and maintain in house print/pattern library.

  • Update and maintain technology, software and equipment needs.

  • Establish and monitor the CAD process and calendar to ensure project deadlines.

  • Work with design and trend/design merchandiser each season to insure that artwork is produced for each brand including; prints, plaids, logos, screen prints, designs for woven, embroidery and appliqués.

  • Utilize seasonal color palettes to create fashionable colorways and produce rendered flats and illustrations for boards.

  • Attend trend presentations and knowledgeable about seasonal trends and colors and their influences on print, pattern and graphics and ensure accurate interpretation of private brand.

  • Utilize print and pattern reference materials i.e., swatch books, textile books, pantone color books, design libraries and other reference materials.

  • Update technology and ensure latest software and equipment needs.

  • Sketch new patterns, specifications and protocol.

  • Scan prints and re-color to seasonal color specifications.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent retail experience.

  • 2-4 years experience in Apparel CAD design required

  • Expertise in design software including Photoshop, Illustrator, U4ia.

  • Knowledge and understanding of branding and key marketing principles.

  • Strong aptitude for strategic planning and execution of brand profiles, positioning statements and objectives.

  • Ability to direct creative and offer creative solutions to design projects including logo & brand designs, package designs photography and copy writing.

  • Strong management, communicative, organizational and problem solving skills.

  • Proficient in leading meetings and making creative presentations.

  • Technical, creative and business writing ability.

  • Knowledge of the retail industry.

  • Understanding of specific merchandising lines and core customer behavior.

  • Office computer skills; ability to learn company systems and tools, preference for Microsoft application experience.
