Corewell Health Internal Auditor in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Summary

The Internal Audit team provides assurance to management and the Finance and Audit Committee that the organization's internal control structure is operating effectively and efficiently to reduce financial, operational and compliance risks to an acceptable level. Internal Audit's objectives are to provide these assurance and consulting activities in a manner designed to add value and improve organizational operations and risk management. An individual in this role will execute procedures for operational, financial, information systems, and/or compliance audits under direct supervision and support of a senior team member, as outlined in the audit plan and at the direction of the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Audit Execution – Performs risk-based evaluations for operational, financial, information systems, and/or compliance audits, consulting or ad hoc requests under direct supervision and support of a senior team member. This includes conducting interviews to understand the process under audit and identifying project level risks and controls at the direction of a senior team member and independently executing audit procedures. Effectively prepares work papers in compliance with the departmental standards and in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditor’s International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).

  • Project Management - Manages personal assignments, budgets, and timelines to ensure the timely and effective completion of assigned work.

  • Audit Result Reporting, Follow-up and Communication – Prepares written and oral presentations to effectively communicate the results of the work completed. Follows up on the status of management action plans in response to audit observations until assurance is gained that the plans have been implemented to effectively address the risk(s) identified. When necessary, works with business to make appropriate adjustments to action plans and timelines; and proactively escalates to business and department management when expectations are not met.

  • Business Relationship Management – Interacts with all levels of management throughout the organization. Builds an understanding of the organization through audit work and direct interactions and begins to establish business relationships.

  • Professional Competency - Keeps current with continuing professional education requirements as required. Actively participates in professional societies.

  • Department Performance - Actively participates in team discussions surrounding departmental processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

  • 2 years of relevant experience Combined relevant professional experience in audit, compliance, healthcare, finance and/or information technology

Preferred

  • Experience with a large or mid-sized healthcare organization, health plan or insurance company

  • Professional auditing experience in internal audit and/or public accounting.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - State of Michigan Or

  • Internal Auditor, Certified (CIA) - Institute of Internal Auditors Or

  • Fraud Examiner (CFE) - Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Or

  • Certified Healthcare Internal Audit Professional (CHIAP) –Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors
