SUMMARY

GRCC is seeking faculty who possess an interest in working with diverse student populations from a wide range of ages, ethnicities, national origins, and abilities; engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies; effectively assess student learning outcomes; demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development; and provide service to our students, the college, and our community at large. NOTE: This role will teach OT 215: Supplemental Practice Skills for Occupational Therapy

Faculty members are responsible to GRCC and to each other for the successful completion of departmental work as well as work associated with the School of Health Sciences and GRCC as a whole. In addition to the major position responsibilities, it is expected that faculty demonstrate outstanding communication skills, collaborate effectively, use personal initiative to overcome obstacles, and work efficiently to meet deadlines. In an environment where innovation is valued, each faculty member will take responsibility to perform their work in a manner consistent with both the letter and the spirit of GRCC values.

Only adjunct faculty living in the state of Michigan can teach in person and virtual classes for GRCC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Major responsibilities:

• Provides instruction in theories, principles and methods in manual and neurorehabilitation approaches commonly used for OT assessment and intervention. • Instruct students on how to situate the methods within the scope of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and examine evidence for their effectiveness. • Maintain accurate course records and submit related reports as requested. • Effectively assess student performance. • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment for students. • Utilize multiple strategies to facilitate learning, i.e. small group work, workshops, etc. • Incorporate new technologies and methods that enhance teaching and learning into his/her instructional methods. • Support the Department and College through other work normally expected of adjunct faculty members.

Curriculum Development

• Facilitates students' learning through lectures, discussions, practical and laboratory exercise or clinical experiences. • Assist in the review of media and published resources and select class readings of supplemental materials. • Evaluates and addresses student learning needs within their social and cultural context. • Plans and prepares course materials to include syllabi, teaching/learning handouts, and questions for group discussion. • Prepares evaluation materials and measures student attainment of stated course objectives. • Develops and maintains proficiency in teaching areas through continuing education and/or practice. • Participates in curriculum development. • Evaluates and incorporates emerging research findings into teaching and research.
