These positions are located in the Granite Falls Station

Shift & Normal Hours of Work: Summer: 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday

Winter: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday

During snow and ice operations employees are split into two shifts and will work 8 hours or more depending on the event. Hours will include overtime and various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:

Function: Road Surface/Roadside Maintenance

  • Perform all activities required for roadside maintenance

  • Perform all roadway surface maintenance activities

  • Service and make minor repairs to operating equipment

  • Provide traffic control

  • Perform basic construction monitoring duties and basic inspection activities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Function: Snow and Ice

  • Performs Snow & Ice duties such as:

  • Maintains roadways for snow and ice control

  • Prepares and inspects winter equipment

  • Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup

  • Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals

  • Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management

  • Performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles

The Transportation Associate serves a one-year probationary period as a trainee with a career

path to Transportation Generalist. Positions will be trained to perform skilled roadway surface

and roadside maintenance activities. The position involves working with others of diverse

backgrounds, using tact and diplomacy; exercising independent judgment; and working

cooperatively within a team environment

Function: Road Surface/Roadside Maintenance

Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Generalist Level

Valid Class B Driver’s License and no air brake restriction. Must obtain a Tanker Endorsement prior to hire. Must obtain a Class A License within 6 months of hire.

Exam Part 1: The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist level can be achieved with:

  • Experience: One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).

OR

  • Education: Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.

  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Exam Part 2: Candidates that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 3 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 4 or higher. (Acceptance is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test.)

Transportation Associate Level

Exam Part 1 : The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Associate level can be achieved with:

· Valid Class A or B Driver’s Permit at the time of Interview. Within 12 months acquire a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and no air brake restrictions.

· Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Exam Part 2 : Candidates that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 3 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 4 or higher. (Acceptance is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test.)

Additional Requirements

Successful candidate must pass past-employer reference checks and criminal history check
