System One I & E Tech in Grant Town, West Virginia

System One is looking for an I &E Technician for an industry-leading client in the Grant Town, WV area. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, tests, calibrates, repairs, and installs instruments, transmitters, recorders, indicators, controllers, meters, impulse lines, cable, computers, DCS system, CEMS systems and any device associated with instrumentation and/or control.

  • Troubleshoots electrical and /or instrumentation systems, subsystems, and devices using generally accepted methods, instruction manuals, and experience to determine the root cause of malfunctions. Reports the cause of the malfunction to the appropriate supervisor and takes appropriate corrective actions.

  • Performs preventive and routine maintenance as directed by supervision and work orders from the preventive maintenance program. Preventive maintenance includes lubricating, cleaning, adjusting, disassembling, assembling, replacing, packing, painting, and wiring of devices such as instruments, controls, valves, steam traps, AC and DC motors, cables, excitation systems, brushes and other plant equipment.

  • Performs corrective maintenance as directed and/or required.

  • Performs additional functions such as isolating equipment, returning equipment to service adjustments, and performing operational tests with instruction from station Operators or other Supervisors.

  • Inventories materials, supplies, tools, and parts. Perform clerical duties as required and/or directed.

  • Trains, instructs, and assists other personnel as directed. Provides technical advice to plant personnel.

  • Trains to improve personal skills related to the job and/or required for advancement.

  • Installs, overhauls and maintains all sizes and types of power circuit breakers, switches, motors, transformers and electrical power equipment

  • Tests and locates faults on control, power and lighting circuits; potential and current transformers, and switchboard wiring; motors and starters; and similar devices on AC and DC circuits.

  • Performs tests and inspections, repairs and adjustments on relays, meters, voltage regulators, telemetering, supervisory control equipment, battery chargers and inverters, instrument transformers, electronic devices and other electrical apparatus used in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.

  • Performs routine electrical apparatus inspections in surface mine areas with MSHA jurisdictions. Completes required corrective actions and develops and files appropriate inspection reports.

  • Designs, installs and tests various electrical equipment upgrades, including programming PLC and DCS systems.

  • Performs various mechanical work as directed.

  • Performs soldering, brazing, and cutting using an oxy-acetylene torch as qualified and directed.

  • Performs general cleaning and housekeeping.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by I/E Team Lead.

  • Competent in computer operating systems; Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and other personal computer software and hardware.

  • Performs system administrator duties for plant operating LAN (local area network).

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of complex analog and digital instrumentation and control systems; cogeneration cycles and their operation; proper methods for troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting instruments and control systems; proper and safe methods to clear equipment; safe use of tools; plant safety rules; reporting procedures and practices, maintenance procedures and practices; electrical and mechanical prints, and cogeneration plant terminology and nomenclature.

    Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical and mechanical maintenance methods and practices.

    Ability to communicate clearly verbal and written information and directives; troubleshoot equipment and system problems; detect and correct faulty instruments and control devices; install special or sensitive instruments; prioritize work; read and understand technical information, prints, and engineering data; interpret charts, graphs and gauge scales; and interface and work with others.

    Ability to utilize the personal computer in applications for spreadsheets, database activities, and word processing.

    Ability to utilize the personal computer for calibration of plant instrumentation, troubleshooting the plant DCS, and performance of the preventative maintenance routines. Education:

    High school education or equal, and completion of a vocational program in instrumentation or a four (4) year Instrument Technician Apprentice Program or related Military training as Instrument/Electronics Technician.

    Experience:

    Four (4) or more years experience as an Instrument Technician in a power plant or related industry or military experience. MSHA surface electrical certifications desired.
