JOB OVERVIEW

The Housekeeper is responsible for performing housekeeping and laundry functions in order to create a safe, secure, and inviting environment for residents, families and team members while meeting and exceeding Sunrise quality service standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed as follows:

Housekeeping:

  • Responsible for performing general housekeeping duties in resident suites, public areas and support areas as assigned while meeting or exceeding Sunrise’s quality standards.

  • Perform cleaning duties according to schedule in assigned areas such as resident suites, bathrooms, common areas and offices:

  • Sweep, dust, dust mop, and wet mop all flooring; spot clean and vacuum floors, rugs, carpets, and runners.

  • Clean, sanitize, and polish lavatory, shower, and sink fixtures.

  • Dust, wash, sponge mop, sanitize and hand shampoo furniture, dust desk and floor lamps, and clean and polish glass surfaces, woodwork, walls, and windowsills.

  • Before entering, always knock on resident’s doors and respect their privacy during the cleaning process.

  • Before entering, always knock on public restroom doors and wait for a response before beginning the cleaning process.

  • Maintain equipment and supplies needed to perform work in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Responsible for transporting supplies, to include clean and soiled linen, to the appropriate storage and collection areas.

  • Responsible for trash collection and removal and for maintaining trash receptacles and collection areas in a clean and sanitary manner.

Laundry:

  • Responsible for collecting, cleaning, and redistributing all linens.

  • Responsible for routinely inspecting linens for wear and tear, identifying worn and torn linens, and following the community’s Standard Operating Procedure for damaged linens.

  • Responsible for maintaining the commercial laundry in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.

  • Safety and Risk Management:

  • Ensure cleaning chemicals are kept stored and locked when not in use.

  • Ensure any cords, carts, equipment, and other hazards are always kept out of the way, not blocking exits and in compliance with fire codes.

  • Partner with community team to ensure community is in compliance with OSHA requirements, promoting Risk Management programs and policies, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.

  • Practice safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout Tagout procedures.

  • Maintain equipment and supplies to avoid waste and damage to areas and equipment and to prevent accidents.

  • Comply with all infection control techniques, placement of bio-hazard containers and removal techniques, procedures, and policies.

Environmental Adaptability:

  • Potential exposure to blood and/or body fluids which may cause exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.

  • Work in an environment that may have possible exposure to unpleasant odors and chemicals as identified in the SDS manual and continuous exposure to residents who may be ill, confused and having unpleasant days.

Server Responsibilities:

  • Greet residents and guests at each table with a smile to serve beverages, cereals, and/or soups/salads from the cart.

  • Courteously and clearly review the menu of the meal, take resident orders, and serve meals and desserts.

  • Return cart to the kitchen and assist with storage of perishable items. If needed, deliver trays to resident rooms.

  • Bus and clear dishes from tables after meals and reset for the next meal following proper sanitizing procedures for tables and chairs as outlined in the Food Service Guidelines. Vacuum carpets, etc.

  • Complete side work – fill sugar holders, replenish creamers, clean coffeemaker, etc.

  • May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.

  • Actively participate as a member of a team and commit to working toward team goals.

  • Demonstrate in daily interactions with others, our Team Member Credo.

  • Commit to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of Service.

  • Contribute to the overall engagement programs and processes (customer and team member engagement) including participating in the team member engagement survey and engagement improvement planning workshops.

  • Attend regular meetings; Town Hall, Department Team, Cross Over, and others as directed by the Supervisor/Department Coordinator.

  • Maintain compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed throughout this job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

  • High School diploma / GED preferred.

  • Able to provide housekeeping and laundry services in a resident centered environment, which meet or exceed Sunrise’s quality standards.

  • Desire to work with seniors.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.

  • Competent in organizational and time management skills.

  • Demonstrate good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work semi-independently without direct supervision by following all community procedures and guidelines, having the ability to follow through on assigned tasks and demonstrating initiative.

  • Ability to perform tasks with frequent interruptions.

  • As applicable, all Sunrise team members who drive a Sunrise vehicle must review and sign the Driver job description and understand the key essential duties for safety and regulatory compliance.
