The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for The Hilda Pinnix Ragland Endowed Associate Professor position in Accounting and Data Analytics. The accounting profession has been impacted by technology and data science since its inception. More recently there has been a seismic shift in the accounting profession driven by innovation and technological advances. The curriculum, practice, and certification of accounting professionals is inextricably tied to technology and data science. The Professor will have a distinguished record of scholarly research, and a strong commitment to teaching, as well as exhibit evidence of an ability to develop innovative programs of excellence that will enhance the professional aspirations of accounting students to become future research leaders in Accounting, Consulting, and/or Data Analysis.
The Distinguished Professorship in Accounting and Data Analytics is a designation of honor and prestige for one faculty member who has earned prominence for his/her scholarly and professional attainments. This appointment entails leadership in undergraduate and graduate financial accounting courses, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills, and spearheading research initiatives in accounting and finance. At the graduate level, this position may require teaching seminar level financial accounting courses that may include advanced topics such as mergers and acquisitions.
As the leader/coordinator of financial accounting and data analytics courses, you will collaborate with faculty members to develop innovative curricula that align with industry standards and emerging trends, while also contributing to the department’s commitment to academic excellence and scholarly inquiry. This prestigious role offers the opportunity to make significant contributions to both the academic community and our corporate partners. The endowed professorship holder is expected to continue outstanding (high quality) scholarly activity. This may include scholarship in discovery, integration, application, or teaching. Research evaluation criteria include impact and contribution to the department, the profession, and society at large.
The Hilda Pinnix Ragland Endowed Associate Professor in accounting position will support the North Carolina A&T State University’s Preeminence 2023 Strategy, the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics’ 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, and the Department of Accounting and Finance 2020 Strategic Plan. Faculty assist the department in achieving its Vision and Mission by contributing to our efforts to deliver innovative instruction and research that improves the accounting profession and produces diverse leaders.
This is a 9-month, tenure track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor based on experience and other credentials.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The College of Business and Economics has a faculty of over 75 (65 tenured and tenure-track) teach in the Departments of Accounting and Finance, Business Information Systems and Analytics, Economics, Management, and Marketing and Supply Chain Management. Faculty are tasked with providing quality teaching and learning supported by relevant research and service. The student body consists of approximately 1,950 undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate degrees are awarded in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Business Information Technology, Economics, Finance, Management, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain Management. The graduate degrees offered are the MBA and Master of Accountancy degrees.

The Department of Accounting and Finance currently enrolls over 315 students and offers two undergraduate degrees, a B.S. in Accounting and a B.S. in Finance, as well as a minor in Accounting and a minor in Finance. The Department also offers a Master of Accountancy degree and an accounting concentration in the College’s MBA program. All business programs in the Deese College have been accredited by AACSB International since 1979, and the Accounting program has held separate AACSB International accreditation since 1986. The Department currently has over 25 faculty, and over 15 tenure track faculty, all of whom hold terminal degrees and 12 of whom maintain active professional certifications.

Requirements:
The position requires an earned doctorate from an AACSB International accredited institution and professional accomplishments appropriate for the level of appointment.
Preferred:
The best candidates will have teaching and research expertise in financial accounting and evidence of high quality research with a sustainable research pipeline. Candidates most likely to be successful will also maintain a professional certification and an active record of professional engagement and grantsmanship.
