Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Greensboro, North Carolina office is seeking a Civil AutoCAD Designer to support our established dam engineering group. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of and help support a strong growing team.

The Greensboro, North Carolina office of Schnabel focuses on the design of dams and foundations for critical infrastructure. Examples of work include the design of new dams, rehabilitation of existing dams, support of excavations, dewatering, and foundation design. Our CAD design applications span multiple disciplines with particular emphasis on the following:

  • Civil Design – Concept and alternatives development, site layout, excavation & grading plans, surface and subsurface drainage, erosion control plans, and quantity takeoffs.

  • Structural Design – Small to large scale reinforced concrete and structural steel structures to include spillways, intake & outlet structures, cantilevered retaining walls, post-tensioned anchor retaining walls, soldier pile and lagging walls, and fabricated steel structures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare two-dimensional CAD drawings (plans, profiles, sections and details) for contract documents based on input and guidance from design staff in accordance with internal drafting standards.

  • Prepare three-dimensional CAD models and renderings for displaying complex features or structures.

  • Maintain drawing files, CAD standards, and other digital files in accordance with internal procedures.

  • Prepare graphics for engineering reports, professional papers, and presentations.

  • Train other technical staff on drafting standards, requirements and procedures.

  • Assist with other administrative office work and tasks on an as-needed basis.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.

  • Candidates will be expected to understand the basics of good file management (i.e. drawing/file references, data shortcuts, and data links).

  • Although not required, experience with any of the following programs will be beneficial: Autodesk InfraWorks, ArcMap/GIS, Microstation, OpenRoads, gINT, Revit and/or Sketchup.

  • Three or more years of drafting/design experience at a civil consulting engineering firm is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to develop large, multifaceted drawing sets based on existing data and engineering sketches.

  • Must have a positive attitude and work well in a team environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Provide a portfolio of past AutoCAD work.

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, credit check.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
