Applied Research Associates, Inc. Staff Mechanical Facilities Process Engineer in Greenville, South Carolina

Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Facilities Process Engineer for a growing list of projects involving modernization of explosives and energetic materials production facilities, munitions production, and novel production system design. In this role you will collaborate with explosives and munitions subject matter experts, federal stakeholders, to support research and development capabilities and ongoing production operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in optimizing mechanical systems and processes within our facilities to ensure operational efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Candidates for this position must be a US citizen residing within the US. This position is located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head (NSWC-IH) and you must be willing to work onsite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess existing mechanical systems and processes within facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and utilities, to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize mechanical processes, reduce energy consumption, and enhance overall facility performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including facilities management, operations, maintenance, and EH&S, to design and execute projects aimed at improving mechanical system reliability and efficiency.

  • Conduct technical assessments and feasibility studies for facility upgrades, retrofits, and expansions, considering factors such as energy efficiency, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.

  • Provide technical expertise and support for troubleshooting mechanical issues, diagnosing root causes, and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime and disruptions.

  • Design and implement preventive maintenance programs for mechanical equipment and systems to ensure optimal reliability and longevity.

  • Stay abreast of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to mechanical engineering, facilities management, and energy conservation.

  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for mechanical projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field; master's degree preferred.

  • 5-8 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on facilities management, preferably in industrial or commercial environments.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, process equipment, and utilities.

  • Experience with facility energy management, including energy audits, HVAC optimization, and implementation of energy conservation measures.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solidworks) and familiarity with building management systems (BMS) and energy monitoring systems.

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and ASME.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
