Spectrum Security Engineer III in Greenwood Village, Colorado
THE SCOPE
Responsible for the engineering activities that monitor, detect and alert on potential security threats and vulnerabilities to the company's telecommunications and signal processing hardware, software and electrical systems. Works closely with network engineering and technical operations staff as security threats and vulnerabilities are detected and coordinates the response to contain and mitigate the threat to Charter’s network. Leads and coordinates the incident response process for network security operations and communicate event status to executive leadership. Develops security policies, standards, configurations and counter-measures.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
Designs and implements processes and controls that acquire and correlate security relevant system and application log data to alert and report on potential security events.
Monitors security dashboard alerts to identify and lead the response and mitigation activities for the security events.
Implements, maintains and monitors threat intelligence data from various resources that is relevant to Charter’s networks and systems.
Develops and coordinates the implementation of security counter-measures with the appropriate organizations.
Develops and recommends security policies, standards and configurations to the security governancecommittee.
Designs and implements the system logic to detect security threats.
Leads the incident response and escalation processes.
Leads and performs the forensics analysis and data evidence gathering for all security events.
Recommends, designs and implements security systems and tools used by Network Security Operations and provides ongoing system support.
Develops security requirements for new projects and performs the security testing prior to going into production.
Performs and coordinates engagements with 3rd party service providers to perform ongoing security testing on critical assets.
Ensures compliance with security standards, policies and procedures.
Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Expert knowledge of network and system security vulnerabilities and exploits
Demonstrated understanding of what is required to prevent security exploits, how to detect security attacks and anomalies and how to respond to security incidents and intrusions
Expert knowledge of forensic methodologies and best practices to investigate intrusions, preserve evidence and coordinate a unified security response
Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to work across functional boundaries, build consensus and drive results
Effective written and verbal communication skills and should have good presentation skills
Ability to effectively solve problems, balance competing priorities and manage through complexity and rapid change
Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
IT/network - 5-7
Information security - 5-7
Information security operations - 3+ Demonstrated experience in managing information security events and incidents for large and sophisticated networks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Current security certifications, such as CISSP, CEH, and SANS GIAC. Firewall, Intrusion Detection
Systems, and router engineering
Botnet and Denial of Service detection and remediation
Ethical hacking and penetration testing
Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
Computer forensics

The base pay for this position generally is between $78,900.00 and $139,500.00 . The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
