Hackensack Meridian Health Lead Medical Technologist, Cell Therapy - Full Time in Hackensack, New Jersey

The Lead Medical Technologist, Cellular Therapy is responsible for assuming the duties and responsibilities for the department in the absence of the supervisor including taking the responsibility for the performance of all technical and clerical duties assigned at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC).

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Lead Medical Technologist, Cellular Therapy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  1. Performs the duties of the Lead technologist and/or is responsible for running the department in the absence of the department head/supervisor.

  2. Ensures that tests and procedures are completed in order of priority and in a timely manner.

  3. Ensures the accuracy of all tests and procedures performed and resolves issues concerning specimens and test results.

  4. Acts as the liaison with members of the Hospital staff as it pertains to technical and/or personnel issues.

  5. Communicates information pertinent to the staff as received from the department head or supervisor.

  6. Assigns and distributes workload for optimal productivity.

  7. Trains and supervises new employees.

  8. Reviews all written documentation of training with new employees prior to their being permitted to work with minimal supervision.

  9. Assists in preparation of documentation needed for laboratory compliance with government and accreditation agencies.

  10. Interacts with inspectors during inspections to answer technical questions.

  11. Performs routine and complex procedures in a timely and accurate manner when workload warrants.

  12. Coordinates and supervises the operation of all laboratory instruments in accordance with applicable standards.

  13. Oversees quality control (QC) of all instruments, environmental monitoring, and products inventory.

  14. Performs quality control (QC) as needed. Documents all quality control (QC) procedures performed and corrective action when QC is out of range.

  15. Performs routine and complex maintenance on instruments.

  16. Calibrates and standardizes instruments according to departmental guidelines.

  17. Maintains complete and accurate records.

  18. Ensures complete and accurate documentation, calculations, and results reporting.

  19. Review incoming orders and documentation to ensure proper handling and processing of Cellular Therapy products.

  20. Communicate, coordinate, and manage Cellular Therapy products receipt and distribution according to departmental guidelines.

  21. Assists with documenting and overseeing competencies.

  22. Assists with preparing for government and accreditation agencies.

  23. Assists with processing proficiency testing materials.

  24. Assists with the development and review of comparison trials, final analysis, and validation of procedures, equipment, and testing.

  25. Receives and maintains supplies and reagents according to the department's inventory management system. Performs Inventory control and ordering as needed.

  26. Writes and updates SOPs and protocols as required.

  27. Communicate and perform logistical coordination of licensed and/or Investigational products as needed.

  28. Performs all system functions necessary to achieve the timely reporting of results.

  29. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  30. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related area.

  2. Minimum of 6 years of experience in clinical laboratory experience or related cell therapy manufacturing experience.

  3. Works with a high degree of latitude.

  4. Expert knowledge of subject matter.

  5. Handles most complex issues and problems.

  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  7. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  1. Some supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

  2. Previous cellular therapy and/or blood bank experience.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  1. Possesses categorical classification or is American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent eligible.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  1. Certified as Medical Technologist (ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA), Clinical Laboratory Technologists (HEW) or equivalent.

  2. Certified Advanced Biotherapies Professional (CABP).
