Job Summary:

AIP is looking for a Part-Time Security Officer to work at Harpers Ferry, WV.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

The Security Officer shall be capable of performing all security officer job functions/duties set forth in the Post Orders.

Security Officer Post assignments will include the following:

  • Access control

  • Package Screening

  • Personnel screening

  • Traffic control

  • Visitor processing

  • Vehicle inspection

  • Communications and dispatching

  • Patrol operations

  • Emergency and event response

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be citizens of the United States of America, no exception.

  • All personnel must be able to pass a favorably single scope background investigation (SSBI) prior to commencing work.

  • All Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment medical exam to include drug screening.

  • Be in possession of a valid Social Security Card issued by the Social Security Administration.

  • Be at least 21 years of age.

  • Possess either a high school diploma or a GED equivalency certificate.

  • Be able to speak English fluently, read and comprehend written English, and compose coherent written reports in English.

  • Be in possession of a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in his/her state of residence.

  • Additionally, applicants for Security Officer must meet one of the criteria set forth in sub section 1.

Sub Section 1

  1. Shall have graduated from a municipal, county, state, or Federal basic law enforcement training academy or successful completion of a Police Officer’s standard Training course qualifying the student for employment as a law enforcement officer followed by three (3) consecutive years of employment as a municipal, county, state, or Federal law enforcement officer within the last 10-years.

OR

  1. Shall have three (3) years of active-duty military service in a law enforcement occupation or specialty and received no less than a General discharge.

All Security Officer applicants must successfully complete required training to include but not limited to Firearms, x-ray and magnetometer training.

Physical Demands:

Security Officers are expected to be physically able to perform the following tasks or functions in the performance of their assigned duties:

  • Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor posts may require the individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or severe weather (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind) for up to four hours without shelter. Some posts have no chair/seating available; thus, the individual must be able to stand for up to four consecutive hours.

  • Frequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch centers, requiring the ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations (e.g., confrontations with angry, distraught, disturbed, or violent persons).

  • Ability to remain on post up to three consecutive hours without eating, drinking, or relieving bladder/bowels.

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of alertness for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations. Use of senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch) is necessary to discern unusual or dangerous situations.

  • Ability to use handcuffs, baton, and firearm at any time while on duty.

  • Ability to read/understand post assignments and write reports (handwritten and electronically using on line forms and Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word, Excel, Access, etc. Ability to read, understand and carry out both routine and emergency dispatches/orders.

  • Ability to verbally or physically subdue violent, potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis situation (e.g., provide emergency first aid/CPR while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel).

  • Occasional running, sprinting, lifting up to 45 lbs. of weight, and climbing stairs (e.g., responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.).
