RBC Bearings Manufacturing Engineer in Hartsville, South Carolina
Description
Summary: In conformance with basic and sound engineering principles and policies, specialized manufacturing engineering assignments to obtain the most consistent components/products and at the most economical manufacturing costs for manufacturing.
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
Responsible for developing and justifying capital projects for manufacturing and assembly areas.
Support shop floor upgrade of programming, tooling/fixturing and assembly support functions.
Research, justify and implement advanced technologies in the areas of tooling, automation, grinding, machining etc. to reduce manufacturing costs; prepare capital requests as required.
Serve as liaison with equipment manufacturers as required.
Work closely with product design group on new product development.
Design/modify and implement manufacturing areas based on new product development efforts ensuring ease of manufacturing, minimizing manufacturing quality defects, minimum manufacturing cost, while complying with safety, ergonomic and 5S standards.
Develop processing, routing, and programming procedures, sequences and machine assignments for fabricating and assembly of new and existing products.
Support manufacturing areas as assigned by Mfg. Engineering Manager in the areas of resolution of manufacturability, and product functionality problems implementation of Engineering Change Notices (ECN) and introduction of major component upgrades to existing products.
Confer with shop floor and support functions to assist in resolving manufacturing problems.
Review the design of new and existing products/components and recommend changes that will result in the most economical cost of production and manufacturing efficiency.
Observe and analyze current methods and processes and make recommendations in areas of improvement to bring about work simplification and cost reduction.
Work closely with purchasing on outsourcing efforts.
Keep abreast of new developments in the manufacturing engineering field through educational institutions, seminars, professional societies, and organizations.
Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
Education Requirement:
AA/BA/BS - Major Desired: Engineering or Technology (Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial) or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required and Preferred Qualifications / Experience
1-4 Year of Manufacturing Engineering experience (Required)
CNC Turning/Programming engineering experience (Required)
Grinding experience within engineering (Required)
Engineering experience working with manufacturing machinery (Preferred)
Experience working in the Bearing Industry, which can include Co-Ops (Preferred)
Project Management (Preferred)
