Town of Harwich Custodian in Harwich, Massachusetts
Performs general custodial care of town property to maintain cleanliness & appearance according to established standards including but not limited to: Sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes & polishes hard surface floors, vacuums & shampoos carpeted area, dusts & polishes furniture & woodwork & washes walls, windows, counters & other interior surfaces. Completes outside grounds keeping duties such as sweeping & cleaning walkways & entrances, maintaining lawns, raking leaves & removing snow & Ice to keep outside premises in an orderly & safe condition. Moves office & other furniture as required, setting up or modifying work areas. Sets up &/or breaks down tables, chairs & the like for meetings & other events. Responds to custodial emergencies such as spills, toilet overflows & the like. Education & Experience Duties require experience & training which demonstrates basic knowledge of building & grounds maintenance & repair. High School Diploma/GED & some experience in building custodial operations & maintenance preferred. Some formal training, courses or apprenticeship in areas such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing or other trades is highly desirable. Knowledge, Ability, & Skill Working knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools & equipment used in custodial care of buildings, fixtures, furniture & equipment & In grounds keeping tools & equipment; Working knowledge of the occupational hazard & safety precautions of custodial work is essential; Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with employees, department officials & the general public is required, & Sufficient physical strength to perform a variety of manual tasks in the care, cleaning & maintenance of buildings, grounds & equipment is essential in performing the duties of this job.
