Actalent Mechanical Engineer in Hastings, Minnesota
Description:
Mechanical Engineer designing fully custom equipment for automated assembly lines. Will own project from concept to design to build, installation and servicing. Utilize Inventor CAD software to create designs for machinery according to needs of the customer. Equipment can range in size in functionality but will typically include weldments, rafter gantries, fixturing, and automated mechanical and electrical systems. Materials involved could include sheet metal, aluminum, steel, plastic, etc. Collaborate with electrical engineering team on control panel design and sensor location.
Work cross-functionally with the production team (fabricators and welders) and assist with fabrication/painting/assembly as needed
Assist with technical service of previous sold machinery
Partner with office staff as needed on customer communication
Independently problem solve design concepts and equipment functionality/applications
Research and source required parts and materials from vendors
Perform necessary validation testing of equipment in-house
Assist Engineering Manager with implementing and developing processes and maintaining and improving quality standards
Work in ERP system
Build BOMs
Prioritize projects of varying size and meet customer deadlines

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors or Associates Degree in engineering, technology, or other technical field preferred
Experience designing fully custom automated equipment
Machining/fabrication experience preferred (equipment on production floor includes: CNC, mills, hydraulic press, mig/tig welding, grinders, band saws, wire EDM, paint booth)
Must be a self-starter with creativity, ability to use good judgement, willingness to go out of comfort zone, and resourcefulness to problem-solve independently.
Communication skills to interact with fabricators, welders, office staff, other engineers, suppliers, management and customers
Experience creating drawings in Inventor, Solidworks, or Pro-E/Creo CAD programs
Strong documentation skills
Familiarity with any ERP system
