The Direct Care Worker (DCW)

The Direct Care Worker shall be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) and have current evidence of successful completion of a biennial training program in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and a triennial training program in first aid which have been offered by certified or licensed health care professionals. Such training programs shall be completed within the first year of employment.

Duties include but not limited to the following:

  • Supervise residents at all times and keep daily logs.
  • Participate in and provide recreational activities.
  • Assist residents with homework as needed.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing phone calls made by residents.
  • Ensure all prescriptions and non-prescription medications are locked at all times unless being distributed to children. DCW will supervise the taking of medication by residents and log all medication being taken by residents in the medication log book.
  • Conduct a 15-minute bed check to ensure that residents are in their assigned living space.
  • Maintain monitoring log of alarms, windows, and doors. DCW will also maintain monthly logs of all fire drills.
  • Monitor and correct the personal appearance of the residents.
  • Participate and assist with daily chores such as laundry, dishing washing, cleaning, etc.
  • Prepare a monthly menu and prepare daily meals.
  • First Aid and CPR trained---must obtain successful completion of First Aid and CPR training within the first year of employment.
  • ESI Certifiedmust obtain successful completion of ESI training within 90 days of employment.
